This Friday brings exciting updates for Windows 11 users across various channels, as Microsoft rolls out new preview builds. Notably, Windows 11 version 25H2 has been launched in the Release Preview Channel, accompanied by builds in the Dev and Beta Channels. Additionally, a fresh non-security update for Windows 11 version 24H2 has become available, with the Canary Channel also receiving its share of improvements. The latest Canary Build, version 27934, introduces several important fixes aimed at enhancing user experience.

Key Enhancements in Build 27934

The latest build features a series of crucial updates across different categories, which aim to refine the overall performance for Insiders. Below are the significant improvements:

  • General Improvements:
    • This update encompasses a variety of general enhancements designed to provide a smoother experience for Insiders using this build on their PCs.
  • Windowing Issues Resolved:
    • This build addresses a notable concern regarding an uptick in Desktop Window Manager (DWM) crashes experienced in the prior release, which manifested as black flashes on the screen.
  • Miscellaneous Fixes:
    • Resolved an issue where launching the Command Prompt without elevation through the Run dialog sometimes opened it in Windows Console Host instead of Windows Terminal, despite Windows Terminal being set as the default application.
    • Addressed an underlying fault that could cause crashes in specific Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps when scrolling within the previous build.

Identified Bugs and Ongoing Investigations

Despite the improvements, some known issues persist in this build:

  • General Bugs:
    • Microsoft is investigating reports of the Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files page freezing during file scans. There are also concerns regarding previous Windows installations not being displayed.
  • File Explorer Anomalies:
    • Users might find that in dark mode, the red indicator for low disk space appears lighter than expected in This PC. Other color discrepancies have also been noted, including the use of black for remaining space instead of a more distinct color.
  • Reset & Recovery Issues:
    • NEW: The “Reset this PC”option under Settings > System > Recovery is currently non-functional on this build. Users requiring a PC reset are advised to roll back to the previous build and perform the reset from there. A fix for this issue is anticipated in the next Canary Channel update.
