On February 7, 2023, VIZ Media announced the highly anticipated English release of Kingdom, a celebrated historical manga by Yasuhisa Hara. This monumental series, which has captivated audiences worldwide with 110 million copies in circulation, has not only spawned an anime adaptation and two live-action films but also numerous video games across platforms like PlayStation and mobile. Until now, the lack of an English version meant that fans outside Japan had to wait patiently; their dedication is finally rewarded as the manga prepares for its historic debut in English.

Scheduled for November 11, 2025, the English version of Kingdom will also be made available on the Shōnen Jump service, confirming long-standing rumors that had circulated regarding its imminent release.

Set against the backdrop of the Warring States period in ancient China (circa 475 – 221 BC), Kingdom chronicles the life of Xin, a war orphan hailing from the Kingdom of Qin. Xin harbors aspirations of becoming a powerful general capable of unifying China. The pivotal moment occurs when he loses his best friend, Piao, under enigmatic circumstances. Driven by their shared dreams, Xin embarks on a quest that leads him to a young king, Ying Zheng, who bears a striking resemblance to Piao. Together, they navigate treacherous political landscapes to reclaim his throne and alter the fabric of history.

Since its inception in January 2006, Kingdom has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump, amassing a collection of 74 volumes. Its widespread appeal and commercial success have cemented its status as one of the best-selling manga series, with over 110 million copies sold by December 2024.

In 2013, this remarkable series received the esteemed Grand Prize of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, awarded to exceptional manga that reflect Osamu Tezuka’s legendary approach to storytelling and artistry. The manga’s influence further extends to its anime adaptation, produced by Studio Pierrot, which boasts an impressive 143 episodes spanning five seasons. The adaptation, celebrated for its captivating animation and storytelling, attracts fans globally, with Season 1 directed by Jun Kamiya, followed by Akira Iwanaga for Season 2. Seasons 3 and 4, directed by Kazuya Monma, feature a collaborative effort with Kenichi Imaizumi for the concluding season.
