Engaging in side missions throughout your journey in Monster Hunter Wilds is crucial for enhancing your Hunter Rank. Successfully completing these missions not only allows you to face a greater variety of assignments but also introduces you to an array of fascinating monsters. A notable challenge can be found in the second portion of Dareel’s Research Report, which involves locating the elusive Ember Rufflizard.
While the standard Rufflizards can typically be found in the Windward Plains biome, the Ember variant is drawn to the “toastiest corners of Oilwell Basin, ” as noted by Dareel. Below, we will guide you through the process of finding an Ember Rufflizard in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to Locate the Ember Rufflizard
In order to initiate your quest for the Ember Rufflizard, you must first return a Tracktail Lizard to Dareel at the Windward Plains Base Camp. Afterward, you’ll receive a request from Samin to gather a Dapperwing. Upon completing these tasks, Dareel will ask for your assistance in locating the Ember Rufflizard.
Dareel provides a helpful hint that these creatures inhabit the “toastiest corners of Oilwell Basin.” If you access your Endemic Life Field Guide, you will find that Ember Rufflizards are predominantly found in the volcanic areas of Oilwell Basin, often perched on rocks, waiting for their prey.
One of the most effective locations to discover multiple Ember Rufflizards is in Area 15 of Oilwell Basin. As this area is characterized by its volcanic terrain, it is advisable to bring Cold Drinks to mitigate the heat while you hunt for these creatures.

On the mentioned map, note where my character is positioned (just south of the Area 15 marker). There is a crater nearby where you can find several groups of Ember Rufflizards. Their distinctive green, glowing markings make them relatively easy to identify, so keep an eye out!

Once you’ve successfully located an Ember Rufflizard, equip your Capture Net and proceed to capture it. After you have secured the creature, return to the Plains Base Camp to report your findings and deliver the Ember Rufflizard to Dareel.
