Google has been focused on enhancing user experience by integrating biometric access into its Find My Device application. It seems that this highly anticipated feature is now being rolled out with the latest update, noticed in version 3.1.173-1 of the app.
Previously, logging into the Find My Device app required users to enter their password each time. Although there was an option to input the password just once and select “Don’t ask again,”this approach raised security issues by leaving devices open to unauthorized access. Anyone with access to a user’s device could tamper with their list of tracked devices.
The introduction of the new biometric login method not only streamlines the login process but also enhances security. If the user has not yet configured biometric authentication on their device, they will still be required to input their Google account password. During the development stage, users had the option to enable or disable this biometric feature.
With the current update of the Find My Device app, biometric login is automatically activated and cannot be turned off.
In addition to this biometric feature, a revamped user interface specifically for tablet users is under development. The existing Find My Device interface for tablets utilizes a bottom sheet to display additional options, quite similar to its phone application counterpart.
The updated user interface introduces subtle layout modifications, moving the bottom sheet to the left side of the app. The options are now organized within a side panel, providing users with enhanced vertical space for interaction. Notably, this side panel is fixed in size and occupies nearly half of the screen when opened.
As of now, there is no information regarding the public release of the new tablet user interface. However, users can take advantage of the biometric login feature available with the latest Find My Device app version. To utilize this feature, make sure you have installed the latest version of the app.
