Shortly after the deployment of Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.16 on live servers, players flooded social media platforms to report a translation error involving the NPC Rral Majun in the Dawntrail Role Quest finale. Square Enix assured the community that a solution to this translation hiccup would be implemented soon through a client-side update.
Translation Error in Dawntrail Role Quest Finale
Despite being a relatively minor content update, Patch 7.16 offered players exciting new content. After players complete the Dawntrail Role Quest chains for various combat roles—including the Healer Role Quests—they can partake in an engaging four-part finale quest. This quest chain rewards participants with a new emote and orchestrion roll. Players can initiate the quest named “Picking Up the Torch”by conversing with Rrah Majun in Tuliyollal. Additionally, the patch introduced significant PVP job balance adjustments, launched a new Crystalline Conflict ranking season, and included a Clouddark Demimateria exchange option in Solution Nine.
Players exploring the content of Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.16 might encounter a notable issue when engaging with Rrah Majun. According to an update from Square Enix on the Lodestone, players who have moved past the “Enforcing Freedom”quest may find Japanese dialogue displayed instead of English when inquiring about circumstances with Rrah Majun. This glitch is isolated to the English client, as versions in French, German, and Japanese remain unaffected. Square Enix has indicated that a hotfix addressing this translation oversight should be rolled out within the coming days. Aitaikimochi, a prominent user on Twitter, translated the Japanese dialogue from Rrah Majun, revealing that the second-ranking members of the Passage of the Unbound, alongside their leader, had been captured, heralding a return to peace.
There’s a small bug in FFXIV Dawntrail Patch 7.16 where Japanese text didn’t get translated over to English on the NA server for the Role Quest. While this translation error may seem minor, it is not the first instance of bugs affecting Final Fantasy 14. Since its inception, players have encountered various glitches, such as an issue where player avatars sharing names with specific bosses could result in the game’s combat log erroneously attributing damage to the player, rather than the intended target.

As Final Fantasy 14 prepares for two significant patches scheduled throughout 2025, the development team remains committed to releasing minor updates for quick fixes as issues arise. The timeline for the aforementioned hotfix addressing the translation error remains to be seen.
