Upcoming Release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Consoles
In a highly anticipated announcement during April’s reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it was confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade would be among the key third-party titles for the new console. Square Enix has officially declared that the entire Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be making its way to both Switch 2 and Xbox systems, in addition to existing platforms like PlayStation and PC.

As part of the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 was unveiled: it is set to launch on January 22, 2026. Following this announcement, Square Enix shared details via X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing that the entirety of the remake trilogy will be available not only on Nintendo’s latest console but also on Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Considerations for the Third Game
This announcement brings great excitement for Xbox and Switch 2 owners who are also fans of the Final Fantasy series. However, a question looms over the release strategy for the third, yet-to-be-titled game in the trilogy. Will this final installment launch simultaneously across all platforms, including Switch 2 and Xbox Series devices, alongside its PlayStation release?
There remains a possibility that the concluding chapter of the series may be exclusive to PlayStation for an initial period, potentially lasting up to a year, before it becomes accessible on other platforms such as Xbox, Switch 2, and PC.
At least we can take solace in the fact that these iconic games are not destined to remain PlayStation and PC exclusives indefinitely.
