The Anticipated Conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy
The long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is nearing its conclusion, with the third installment yet to be officially unveiled. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Naoki Hamaguchi, the trilogy’s director, discussed the game’s development philosophy, particularly in relation to the upcoming releases for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S alongside Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Expanding Gameplay Experience
Hamaguchi-san elaborated on the guiding principles behind the remake project, stating, “Across the entire remake project, the guiding philosophy has been to progressively expand the scale of the gameplay experience with each entry, rather than repeat the same experience.” He emphasized that while Final Fantasy VII Remake focused on deep narrative engagement, Rebirth is set to expand that world further, introducing a more extensive environmental exploration.“This series isn’t about rehashing gameplay just because it’s a remake, ” he asserted.
A Vision for the Third Installment
In his comments about Part 3, Hamaguchi-san described the creative challenge they face: “I consider this project where we’ve pushed ourselves to ask, ‘How much further can we expand the experience?’” Instead of merely wrapping up existing storylines, the development team aims to realize the full scope of the trilogy. Hamaguchi added with a hint of humor, “You could also look forward to the Highwind, which I know many people are curious about, ” referring to the iconic airship from the series.
Anticipation Builds Among Fans
With exciting hints about gameplay mechanics and the inclusion of airship adventures, fan excitement is at an all-time high. However, the exact timeline for revealing more about the game remains unclear. Hamaguchi san stated, “I’m unable to share concrete details at this time. What I can say is that development itself is proceeding on time and on schedule. We believe it’ll become a title we can deliver with confidence as the culmination of the trilogy.
Looking Ahead: Release Timing and Expectations
As the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII approaches on January 31, 2027, speculation grows about the potential release of Part 3 for PC and consoles around this significant date. Given the publisher’s relatively light release schedule for the current year and the early part of the next, we may very well catch a glimpse of the series’ conclusion during the upcoming Summer showcases of the “not-E3″season.
With fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter, the anticipation continues to build. As Hamaguchi-san concluded, “We know many fans are eagerly waiting, and preparations toward the announcement are steadily underway. Please look forward to it just a little longer.”
