Progress Update on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

  • The development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is moving forward smoothly, with no significant obstacles reported.
  • While there’s no specific release date yet, analysts suggest that the game could be available by 2027, based on Square Enix’s history of game launches.

Square Enix has expressed confidence regarding the advancement of the third installment in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series, according to a senior representative from the company. This optimistic assessment emerged during a recent update detailing the status of the ongoing project.

Pre-production for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 commenced around June 2022, transitioning to full production shortly after the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in February 2024. Since then, Square Enix has provided intermittent updates regarding the development of this highly anticipated AAA RPG.

In line with this trend, Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the Final Fantasy series, and game director Naoki Hamaguchi participated in an interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu, where they discussed the current work progress. Hamaguchi emphasized his satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting that development is proceeding “very well.”He confirmed that there have been no major delays, although he refrained from providing an official release timeline for the upcoming game.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Story Concluded in 2024

During the same interview, Kitase reaffirmed that the narrative for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has been completed. Hamaguchi had previously disclosed this information in November 2024, revealing that the concept for the game had been finalized. Kitase expressed his satisfaction with the final design and anticipated that fans would also appreciate the end product, although he withheld specific details at this time.

The development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake took approximately five years in total, excluding its pre-production phase. Conversely, the second installment, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, was completed in about four years. This quicker timeline can be attributed to the reuse of certain assets from the first game, allowing Square Enix to streamline the development process. It is worth noting that the global pandemic in 2020 had an impact on project timelines, which could have otherwise further accelerated Rebirth’s completion.

With this progress, it is plausible that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could be released by 2027. Like its predecessors, this yet-to-be-titled title is expected to launch as a timed exclusive on PlayStation before becoming available on PCs and potentially other platforms. Notably, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth transitioned to a multi-platform release on January 23, 2024.
