Filming Locations of The Great British Bake Off: Discover the City & More

The fifteenth season of The Great British Bake Off has officially premiered, introducing audiences to a fresh lineup of contestants vying for culinary glory. After watching episode 1, many fans eagerly inquired about the stunning filming locations showcased with beautiful aerial shots throughout the episode.

As reported in a September 25, 2024, article by Country and Town House, the latest season was filmed in Berkshire at Welford Park. This picturesque spot is situated near Welford Park House and its associated church. Notably, this isn’t the first time the popular Channel 4 baking competition has utilized this location; Welford Park first became the filming site during season 5 in 2014, commencing in April. The site has continued to be the filming location since then, aside from a brief hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to season 5, filming for The Great British Bake Off took place in Somerset at Harptree Court for seasons 3 and 4 during 2012 and 2013. The second season in 2011 was shot in Redbridge at Valentines Mansion.

The premiere of The Great British Bake Off season 15 occurred exclusively on Channel 4 on September 24, 2024, at 8 PM. In each episode, participants showcase their baking talent alongside their creativity. The synopsis for the premiere episode reads:

“Bake Off’ is back, as a new set of bakers enter the tent; it’s cake week and the bakers elevate a loaf cake, tackle a technical with a twist, and make bamboozling hyper-realistic illusion cakes.”

Season 15 of The Great British Bake Off is Filmed at Welford Park in Berkshire

The filming tent for The Great British Bake Off season 15 is located adjacent to the Welford Park country house and its iconic round-tower church. This filming location has remained consistent since 2014 but was altered during the pandemic.

For season 11, the show was filmed at Down Hall Hotel in Bishop’s Stortford. Due to COVID-19, the typical 12-week filming schedule was condensed into six weeks.

To comply with quarantine guidelines, contestants and their families adhered to specific restrictions throughout the six-week duration. Traditionally, the filming of The Great British Bake Off begins in April and extends until the conclusion of summer.

Welford Park has a rich history; it was purchased by a family in 1618, but before that, it served as a hunting ground for Henry VIII. Initially, before a permanent filming location was established, the crew relocated weekly based on the themes of the episodes, beginning with the show’s premiere in 2010.

In the inaugural week themed around cakes, filming took place in the Cotswolds. During weeks 2 and 3, they moved locations to Scone Palace in Perthshire and Sarre Windmill in Kent, respectively. By week 4, during Bread Week, the contestants and crew had to relocate to Bakewell in Derbyshire for the Puddings theme.

The final two weeks, focused on Pastry and Tea Party, were filmed at Mousehole in Cornwall and Fulham Palace in London, respectively.

You can stream The Great British Bake Off exclusively on Channel 4. Episodes 1 and 2 are currently available, and the next episode, titled Bread Week, is set to air on October 8, 2024.
