Files introduces bulk file renaming feature, enhanced dialogs, and additional improvements

Files, a popular third-party file management tool for Windows 10 and 11, has rolled out a new update. Version 3.7.11, while not a significant release packed with features—building upon version 3.7 from early September—introduces several useful enhancements. These include the capability to rename multiple files simultaneously, upgrades to certain dialog windows, and various bug fixes.

The highlight of Files 3.7.11 is the bulk renaming feature. Users can select multiple files, hit F2, or click on the Rename button in the toolbar. Following this, the application will prompt for a new name and sequentially number all chosen files. This functionality extends to folders as well.

Additionally, the “Create new item” dialog has been slightly revamped to now show the specific type of item you are creating, moving away from the previous generic “Enter an item name”wording. Also noteworthy, the About page has been updated to include an option for copying the User ID, which will assist developers in troubleshooting and analyzing crash reports.

• Minimum window dimensions have been reduced.
• Support for custom icon paths in the properties window has been enabled.
• Files icon has been added to the Windows process.
• Window placement issues have been resolved.
• Sorting preferences now save correctly when adjusted in the Columns Layout.
• A NullReferenceException in BaseTransferItemAction.ExecuteTransferAsync has been addressed.
• Issues related to dragging and dropping items in the sidebar have been fixed.
• The Start Menu tile now correctly indicates the branch.
• Navigation bugs with photos on Windows 10 have been rectified.

This update can now be obtained by users who side-load Files through the installer available on the official website, with plans to make it accessible via the Microsoft Store shortly. The app is free when downloaded from its official site, but users can also choose to purchase it through the Microsoft Store to support ongoing development efforts.
