Latest Update for File Preview: Version 3.9.14 Enhances User Experience

The much-anticipated update for the File Preview application, a versatile file management tool for Windows 10 and 11, has officially launched with version 3.9.14. This update brings a series of enhancements, including new features centered around file properties, improved dual-pane functionality, and the much-requested ability to resize columns in the Columns View.

New Features to Enhance File Management

One of the standout improvements is in the Properties dialog, which now includes a dedicated “Signatures”tab. This new addition allows users to effortlessly review digital signatures linked to their files, displaying essential information such as version number, issuer details, and expiration dates. For those who require further information, a “Details”button provides direct access to Windows’ native properties dialog.

Files Preview Dual Pane Improvements

Improved Dual-Pane Functionality

The dual-pane feature has undergone significant refinements for a smoother user experience. The command previously labeled “Add pane”has been transformed into “Split pane, ”making it clearer for users. Furthermore, a new quick action has been introduced, enabling users to easily toggle the dual-pane mode. Additionally, a specific section within the settings now addresses dual-pane preferences, ensuring personalized control.

Resizable Columns in Columns View

Enhanced Usability with Resizable Columns

Among other enhancements, users will appreciate the new feature that allows columns in the Columns View to be resized. Moreover, search results now display a clear header showing the current search query, refining navigation and usability.

Addressing Performance Concerns

In tandem with the launch of this update, the development team took a moment to acknowledge user feedback regarding performance issues. Their commitment to improving the application’s efficiency is evident in their statement:

“We understand that performance is a major concern, and for some users, a deal breaker. We hear that feedback loud and clear. While WinAppSDK offers a modern and flexible UI framework, it currently falls short in terms of performance. While there is only so much we can do until the platform itself improves, we’ll continue working on optimizations, and we invite the open-source community to get involved as well. Our goal is to steadily improve the experience with every update, and with your help, we can keep pushing forward.”
