“Fighting for a million dollars is a huge factor” – Former Bellator champion Liz Carmouche discusses decision to compete in PFL regular season

Liz Carmouche has recently revealed her reasons for joining the PFL regular season, in which she will participate in the women’s flyweight tournament with the chance to earn $1 million and further enhance her championship record.

Since leaving the UFC, the current Bellator women’s flyweight champion has achieved a significant amount of success and is carrying a strong momentum into the regular season. She is currently on a seven-fight winning streak, with six of those victories ending in a stoppage.

In a video shared on the PFL’s X account, Carmouche elaborated on her choice to join the regular season. She stated that her military experience aided her in mental preparation and that the top prize greatly influenced her decision. She expressed,

“Definitely fighting for a million dollars is a huge factor, of course it is for anybody, but particularly for a female athlete. Most of us aren’t seeing that in a lifetime in our career let alone achieving that in four fights.

“But also just that prospect of including another belt into my journey and having it as part of the chapter of this life now definitely just sealed the mark of why I had to go into PFL [regular season].”

It will be intriguing to observe Liz Carmouche’s performance as she will be expected to compete more frequently in the regular season format.

Who is Liz Carmouche facing in her first PFL regular season match?

Despite being a newcomer to the PFL regular season, Liz Carmouche will face a familiar opponent in her opening bout as she takes on former foe Juliana Velasquez.

Carmouche and Velasquez have previously faced each other twice in the Bellator cage, making this upcoming fight not their first encounter. In their initial meeting, ‘Girl-Rilla’ controversially secured a TKO victory to claim the women’s flyweight title, with some arguing that it was stopped too early.

Despite facing criticism, Carmouche ultimately agreed to a rematch right away. The second bout between them was free of any controversy, as she made a strong statement with a second-round submission victory. It will be intriguing to see if the Bellator women’s flyweight champion can continue her dominance over Velasquez and start her PFL regular season with a win.
