Fighter explains sudden UFC exit, Conor McGregor gives drug test update, Dustin Poirier triggers Hollywood rumors: MMA News Roundup
A former UFC title contender, who unexpectedly parted ways with the organization, has now disclosed the true reason for the separation. Additionally, Conor McGregor has provided an update on his current drug testing status.
Taila Santos opens up about leaving the UFC
Despite losing a close split decision to Valentina Shevchenko, Taila Santos abruptly departed from the UFC last year, leaving many puzzled by her sudden decision without providing much of an explanation.
Despite suffering another decision loss to Erin Blanchfield in her next fight, Santos was ultimately released from the promotion.
During a recent interview with MMA Junkie’s Danny Segura, she finally revealed details about the split.
“I was in the UFC, but I wasn’t very happy. Everything started when I fought for the belt against Valentina (Shevchenko). I clearly won that fight, and it was one of the first tough fights Valentina had ever had in her career… I believe I deserved the rematch, the opportunity, but it didn’t happen. There were also some uncomfortable aspects around dates and the calendar.”[H/t MMA Junkie]
She made it clear that the delays following each fight were a source of frustration for her, leading her to decide against renewing her contract.
Santos will be making her PFL debut against Ilara Joanne at the Boeing Center in San Antonio on Thursday, April 4.
Conor McGregor reveals results of recent drug test
Despite a tumultuous situation with USADA that occurred towards the end of their partnership with the UFC, Conor McGregor remains actively participating in the testing pool. As the first quarter comes to a close, the Irishman holds the record for being the most tested fighter under the promotion’s new anti-doping program since January 1.
The program is currently operating under Drug Free Sport International.
According to reports, McGregor has undergone a total of five tests, which is two more than the following three names on the list: Themba Gorimbo, Mayra Bueno Silva, and Sean Strickland.
On April 3, McGregor updated his Instagram Story with the news report and provided an update:
“Got tested again yesterday. All good in the hood.”
Despite the widespread joke about Conor McGregor’s potential use of drugs like cocaine, the numerous drug tests conducted should provide clarity on the situation prior to any potential comeback.
Dustin Poirier’s Possible Move to Hollywood Creates Buzz in MMA Community
Is Dustin Poirier also pursuing a movie career, similar to his rival Conor McGregor?
Although it may not be certain, he definitely gave his fans reason to believe so.
A promotional video for Dev Patel’s new movie Monkey Man recently showcased ‘The Diamond’. The collaboration, which was posted on Poirier’s social media, resulted in a flurry of reactions from fans who believed that the UFC star was part of the film.
The movie, produced and directed by Patel himself, centers on a young man who earns a living in an underground fight club while donning a gorilla mask. In the video, Poirier’s performance parallels scenes from the film as he delivers a poignant message about the fighting world.
