FBC: Firebreak, Remedy’s Co-op Control Spin-off Launches on Game Pass Day One

Initially introduced to the gaming community in 2021, Project Condor has evolved into what is now known as FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative play experience in development by Remedy Entertainment. During today’s Xbox Partner Preview showcase, a brand-new trailer was unveiled, presenting captivating gameplay footage; be sure to check it out above.

Although FBC: Firebreak exists within the same universe as Control and Alan Wake 2—its title deriving from the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC)—the creators emphasize that the thematic elements are distinctly different. This title is not intended to be a sequel to Control.

According to game director Mike Kayatta, “FBC: Firebreak is not an expansion for Control, nor is it a sequel.” He elaborated on the project’s scope, asserting, “We’re deliberately steering clear of resembling either of those titles. You could consider it a spin-off, but in the most favorable light. It’s meant to stand alone and is not a diminished version of Control. FBC: Firebreak is a complete experience on its own.”

Players will engage in three-player cooperative missions, exploring quests set within the enigmatic Oldest House, all under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Control. The game will embrace a markedly different atmosphere, focusing on humor and lighter narrative themes.

Kayatta stated, “FBC: Firebreak tells the story of individuals navigating a bizarre world while struggling for survival. What appears amusing from our couches—like sentient, murderous sticky notes multiplying like rabbits—could be genuinely terrifying to the characters experiencing it. This contrast between absurdity and serious consequences has always been the enchanting quality of Control.”

FBC: Firebreak is slated for a wide release in 2025 and will be available on PC and Xbox platforms, including a day-one offering on Xbox Game Pass.
