Quick Navigation
Fate enthusiasts have exciting content to look forward to in December, as both Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel and Fate/Strange Fake will become accessible on popular streaming services. The anticipation reached a peak on November 23, and now fans can rejoice further in the upcoming month.
For those who may not be well-acquainted with the series, the Fate saga can be quite intricate. It all originated from the Fate/Stay Night visual novel, which was launched in 2004 in Japan. A remastered version, titled Fate/stay night REMASTERED, is now available on various platforms. The narrative primarily follows Shirou Emiya, who uncovers clandestine battles waged between Masters, who summon mystical “Servants”—the spirits of legendary figures. Players can navigate through three distinct routes: Destiny, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven’s Feel.
Over the years, the Fate narrative has inspired a wealth of adaptations, including anime based on each of the original game’s storylines. The Heaven’s Feel trilogy corresponds to the route of the same name, while Fate/Strange Fake began as a lighthearted spoof.
Crunchyroll and Hulu will launch the Heaven’s Feel movie trilogy on December 19, 2024, while the first episode of Fate/Strange Fake will premiere on Crunchyroll on December 31, coinciding with the festive New Year special. Additionally, a dubbed version is confirmed for release.
The Narrative of Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel
Warning: The following section contains spoilers for Heaven’s Feel.
The trilogy, crafted by the renowned Ufotable—the creators behind Demon Slayer—premiered in Japan across three years: 2017, 2019, and 2020. This captivating series follows Emiya, who becomes entangled in the brutal Fifth Holy Grail War, where powerful mages (Masters) battle to seize victory alongside their heroic spirits (Servants). Emiya is determined to win not just for himself, but to protect his friend, Sakura Matou, who suffers from the abusive influence of her brother. As the plot thickens, Sakura becomes a Master herself but becomes possessed, pushing Emiya to his limits as he strives to rescue her.
These films have garnered significant acclaim in Japan, often topping box office charts on their opening weekends and receiving praise from a dedicated fanbase.
The Humorous Origins of Fate/Strange Fake
The inception of Fate/Strange Fake traces back to an April Fool’s prank by Ryogo Narita in 2008, originally announced as a parody dubbed Fake/states night. Narita, the celebrated mind behind Durarara, humorously kicked off what eventually evolved into a successful novel series, followed by a manga adaptation.
This unique storyline unfolds in the United States, wherein a clandestine organization attempts to recreate the Third Holy Grail War. The first anime adaptation, a special titled Whispers of Dawn, was launched in 2023 and acts as a prelude to the upcoming series produced by A-1 Pictures, featuring a familiar cast and production team.
As the fate of both series unfolds, fans can look forward to streaming the Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel trilogy on Crunchyroll and Hulu starting December 19, 2024. Simultaneously, the Fate/Strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn special is currently available on Crunchyroll, ahead of the series debut, which will also feature a dubbed version.
