Fate/Extra Record Delayed to Spring 2026: An Update from Bandai Namco
Bandai Namco has announced a shift in the release timeline for the highly anticipated game Fate/Extra Record, now scheduled to launch in Spring 2026, moving it from its initial plan for 2025. This delay comes alongside a personal message from Kazuya Nino, the lead developer at Type-Moon Studio BB, who addressed fans regarding the postponement.
Kazuya Nino Shares Insights on the Delay
In a candid social media post, Nino expressed his apologies for the delay, explaining that the extended production time is primarily due to the complexities involved in implementing full voice acting, which includes a vast array of background characters. A rough translation of his statement reads:
“I am very sorry to keep you waiting.
This is my first time developing a game with full voice acting, including background characters, and I completely misjudged the schedule. I didn’t realize how time consuming it would be…
Please, give us a bit more time!”
Details from Bandai Namco
In addition to Nino’s message, Bandai Namco confirmed via a recent update that both the Super Special and Special Editions of Fate/Extra Record are now available for pre-order at the Asobi Store, Japan’s official online retailer. Standard editions will follow, with pre-orders set to open at a later date in Japan.
A Look Back at Fate/Extra Record
Fate/Extra Record was first announced in 2020, but updates have remained scarce until the FGO Fes 2024 event in August, where a new trailer highlighted the game’s progression over the years. The trailer introduced exciting new features such as customizable rooms, showcasing the developers’ efforts to enhance gameplay experience.
Currently, Fate/Extra Record is being developed for multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam. The delay to Spring 2026 has generated a mix of disappointment and anticipation among fans, with no official announcements regarding an international release yet.
