In an unexpected development, Ubisoft has confirmed that Far Cry New Dawn, a game released in 2019, will soon receive an update enabling 60 FPS functionality on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. This title serves as a spin-off, taking place significantly after the narrative of Far Cry 5.
Developed by the renowned Ubisoft Montreal studio, Far Cry New Dawn follows survivors as they navigate a post-apocalyptic landscape, battling rival factions for dwindling resources. While the game received mixed reviews upon its launch, it did not garner the same acclaim as its predecessor. Despite the passage of time, Ubisoft’s announcement may rekindle interest among players who have yet to experience this installment.
On January 31, 2025, Ubisoft Support made a surprising announcement via Twitter regarding the 60 FPS update for Far Cry New Dawn. To prepare for this enhancement on Xbox Series consoles, the FPS Boost feature will temporarily be disabled starting at 4 PM PST (or 7 PM EST).This measure is designed to ensure a seamless rollout of the update. Notably, PlayStation users are not affected by this change and can look forward to the performance boost without any preparatory actions.
Incorporating Performance Upgrades in Legacy Ubisoft Titles
Well… this wasn’t how we planned to announce this.— A 60 FPS update is coming to Far Cry New Dawn on Xbox Series X|S! BUT to ensure a smooth roll out, we need to temporarily disable FPS Boost today at 4 PM PST (Feb 1, 0000 UTC).Thank you for your patience! — Ubisoft Support (@UbisoftSupport) January 31, 2025
Oh, and PS5 players, you’re getting the 60 FPS update too! The FPS Boost change only applies to Xbox.— Ubisoft Support (@UbisoftSupport) January 31, 2025
Ubisoft’s decision to enhance Far Cry New Dawn reflects a broader trend of updating legacy titles. This isn’t the first time the publisher has upgraded older games; in November 2024, Ubisoft released a similar 60 FPS patch for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Moreover, the developers have recently added achievements in both Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6 on Steam, demonstrating their commitment to enriching past offerings.

Despite these positive strides, Ubisoft faces significant challenges, including increasing speculation about a potential third-party takeover and recent layoffs affecting its workforce at the beginning of 2025. Amidst these obstacles, the company is optimistic for the success of its upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which could provide much-needed momentum and uplift the company’s morale.
