Fans Share Reactions as BTS’ Jin Reflects on Mnet Scam During Group’s Debut Years
On October 29, 2024, BTS member Jin made a guest appearance on the latest episode of KStarNextDoor4, a well-known talk show in South Korea hosted by the entertainer Jonathan. During their chat, Jonathan reminisced about a moment from BTS’ variety show, American Hustle Life, where the members were tasked with distributing flyers to promote their concert.
The “I’ll Be There”singer humorously criticized Mnet, the company behind American Hustle Life, calling them a “scammer”and claiming that they deceived him and his bandmates.
“About 2 years after our debut, I was scammed. I was led to believe we would be working on music in the US, but suddenly they said we were starting American Hustle Life.”
For those unfamiliar, American Hustle Life was a reality series where the BTS members spent two weeks in Los Angeles, learning from hip-hop instructors and engaging in activities to immerse themselves in real hip-hop culture. The show aired on Mnet starting July 24, 2014, at 8:00 PM.
The snippet from KStarNextDoor4 quickly gained popularity online, as fans of BTS took to X to celebrate the group’s remarkable journey since their early days.
One fan commented on X:
“BANGTAN HAS COME SUCH A LONG WAY!”
“Mnet was definitely the trigger that brought back all these memories,”another fan remarked.
“Mnet IS a scammer—thank you for saying it out loud, king,”one more fan declared.
Many fans noted how Bangtan Sonyeondan, or BTS, has achieved such fame over the past decade that now everyone wants to see them perform live.
“Now my guy has fans worldwide sharing flyers for him! TALK ABOUT FLEXING!!!!”wrote another fan.
“AHL flashbacks a decade later, wow. I never thought someone would bring that up again,”another fan shared.
“LOL, I bet they’ll never forget American Hustle Life,”added another fan.
BTS’ Jin discusses his limited contacts, daily chats with Paik Jong-won, and more
During the KStarNextDoor4 episode, Jin elaborated that several members of BTS were unable to obtain leave from their military service during j-hope’s discharge on October 17, 2024.
Although j-hope had told Jin that his presence was not necessary, Jin rearranged his entire work schedule to attend the discharge event at the Wonju military center, stating:
“Hobi said it was fine for me not to come; however, it can be tough for other members to get their vacation days. Keeping that in mind, I thought no one would be able to attend Hobi’s discharge. So, I canceled my work commitments to be there.”
Interestingly, Jin revealed that while most individuals in the entertainment world boast contact lists with 2,000 to 3,000 names, he has only about 120 saved on his phone. He stated:
“Since it’s just me and the team during shoots, no one else joins us. I’m not fond of going out, and people believe it’s hard to reach me, so they seldom call. I just wish they would.”
Additionally, he disclosed that he talks to the renowned chef Paik Jong-won every day, mentioning that he frequently texts the Culinary Class War star and receives return calls from him.
In other news, BTS’ Jin is set to debut his solo album, titled Happy, on November 15, 2024.
