Fans React to “Unprofessional” News Coverage Linking BLACKPINK’s Jennie as Taehyung’s Girlfriend in BTS Idol’s Gym Update

On Thursday, September 26, News5 Philippines aired a segment featuring updates on BTS member Taehyung’s fitness journey. The news anchor discussed a recent Instagram post from the idol, where he showcased his impressive physique while at the gym.

While the primary focus of the news was on Taehyung’s gym progress, the anchor briefly mentioned BLACKPINK’s Jennie as his girlfriend towards the end of the segment. This mention was used as a segue by News5 Philippines to transition from V’s fitness updates to discussing Jennie’s upcoming solo comeback.

Many fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the characterization of Jennie as Taehyung’s girlfriend, arguing that it was “unprofessional”for a respected news outlet to propagate such rumors.

Since 2022, numerous rumors and theories have circulated about a potential romantic connection between BTS’s Taehyung and BLACKPINK’s Jennie. These speculations intensified when the two K-pop idols were reportedly seen walking together in Paris, France, in May 2023. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding their relationship status.

Consequently, many viewers criticized the news channel for referring to Jennie as V’s girlfriend.

“What is this behavior?! You’re a news channel yet using a baseless online rumor as if it’s fact is so unprofessional, no credibility whatsoever,”remarked one user.

“It’s unprofessional to spread misinformation. Stop relying on random internet articles that pursue the same clout-chasing agenda using his name. You’re a news program, not a gossip channel,”commented a fan on X.

“I was smiling watching this then my face turned sour. Why do you combine them in one report?”added another fan.

Many other netizens voiced that linking the two K-pop idols in this manner, and spreading misinformation about them, was unnecessary.

“Unprofessional journalism at its peak linking a totally unrelated person as a transition, a baseless rumor which has already been acknowledged as defamation. Pushing the same clout-chasing agenda using his name. You should be ashamed of yourselves,”criticized one netizen.

“A news program relying on rumors to link two unrelated reports? Stop using him for others’ comebacks! Such a shame!”commented another user on X.

“Did I hear gf??? Unprofessionalism at its peak. Do better,”added an X user.
