Fans React to John’s Elimination on The Great British Bake Off: “Very Unlucky”

This week marked the airing of the latest episode of The Great British Bake Off, season 15—which is referred to as The Great British Baking Show across the Atlantic in the United States. The episode premiered on Tuesday, October 8, on Channel 4, focusing heavily on bread-themed challenges.

In this episode, contestants faced various baking tasks, beginning with the Signature Bake where they crafted savory buns. This was followed by the Technical Challenge, which required the bakers to showcase a Seven-Strand Plaited Wreath, concluding with the Showstopper challenge, a Bread Cornucopia Display.

While Dylan earned the title of Star Baker, John faced elimination. The response from fans regarding John’s departure was deeply felt, with many expressing their sorrow on social media. One user wrote on X:

John Exits The Great British Bake Off Season 15 Episode 3

Episode 3 of The Great British Bake Off, recognized as Bread Week, challenged the bakers to create an array of bread-based dishes. The first assignment required them to bake 12 uniform savory buns, with judges seeking well-structured buns with “nice stretchy dough”and flavor.

John opted for Yamas! Savory Buns, but according to Country & Town House, the outcome was deemed “somewhat disappointing,”as large steam pockets were visible within the buns. Critiques from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith noted that John’s buns had a dry consistency.

For the Technical Challenge, contestants had to produce a Seven-Strand Plaited Wreath without a provided recipe, relying instead on a live demonstration from judge Paul Hollywood. While Nelly excelled, John ended up in second-to-last place in this round.

During the final Showstopper challenge, bakers were tasked with constructing a Bread Cornucopia Display, featuring a sturdy, horn-shaped sculpture filled with two types of bread.

Sadly, John’s creation, the Horn of Pride, fell short of expectations, leading to his elimination from the competition. Like past contestants before him, John shared his reflections in a farewell letter.

In this letter, he expressed his long-time admiration for the show and noted that although he aimed to make new friends, he instead gained a “Bake Off family”that he would “always cherish.”
