Fans Praise BLACKPINK’s Rosé as a Storyteller in ‘Viva La Visa’ OST for Pachinko Season 2

The finale of the Korean series Pachinko, produced by Apple TV+, was broadcast on October 11, 2024. This much-anticipated episode featured a stunning original soundtrack (OST) rendition of Viva La Vida, performed by BLACKPINK member Rosé. The song’s poignant climax coincided with a pivotal moment in the narrative, where Noa, the son of Sunja (played by Kim Min-ah) and Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho), makes a dramatic exit, leaving everything behind.

In a July 2024 article by Teen Vogue, it was highlighted that the acclaimed BLACKPINK singer lent her vocals to the OST of the hit series. To provide some context, Viva La Vida is a track originally released in 2008 by the British band Coldplay. Rosé’s new interpretation appeared in the eighth episode of Pachinko’s second season.

The fresh rendition of the song features a restructured set of lyrics and a softer, almost whisper-like delivery, setting it apart from the original Coldplay version. In her Instagram broadcast, Rosé expressed her excitement about being part of the impactful trailer and finale of this globally recognized series:

“I feel honored to be part of the trailer and finale of the second season of this award-winning and globally acclaimed drama series, Pachinko, on Apple TV. I hope you all look forward to season 2 and enjoy my cover of ‘Viva La Vida.’”

Fans were pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of her rendition, with many praising her vocal expression. One fan noted Rosé’s ability to convey emotion, remarking on lines filled with sarcasm and dramatic pauses:

“The sarcasm in ‘long live the king’ and the dramatic pause in ‘lonely string.’ She is really a storyteller.”

Following the episode, numerous fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate her vocals and expressed excitement for her forthcoming solo album.

“Rosé’s voice is so beautiful and haunting. This was such a perfect choice for the Pachinko finale,”a fan commented.

“I DON’T THINK WE ARE SO READY FOR HER ALBUM ‘ROSIE’ BUT I’M STILL EXCITED TO HEAR HER OWN SONGS. SHE SLAYED THE OST THAT MAKES YOU WANT MORE,”another fan said.

“They need to put this on streaming ASAP,”another fan added.

Despite the enthusiasm, some viewers expressed frustration over the absence of Rosé’s rendition of Viva La Vida on music streaming platforms, as it has yet to be made available for wider listening.

“Rosé’s voice gives me literal chills, she sounds so amazing, I effing love her so much,”one user wrote.

“The way she can literally touch my heart with her beautiful voice. I need the full version on Spotify NOW,”another follower shared.

“Never thought I could fall in love with someone’s voice, let alone with someone’s breathing but I am and I do I can’t with all this emotions,”a fan added.
