Fans Playfully React to the Contrasting Solo Music Videos of BTS’ Older and Younger Members
On October 11, 2024, Jin, the oldest member of BTS, delighted fans with the unveiling of an extended version of his amusing track, “Super Tuna.”The accompanying music video, packed with humorous edits and a playful theme, had fans chuckling at the creative flair exhibited throughout the production.
This launch also ignited discussions among ARMYs, the dedicated BTS fanbase, who drew attention to the notable contrasts between the solo music videos of the group’s seven members prior to their military enlistments.
Fans particularly highlighted the disparities between the younger members, commonly referred to as the “maknae line”—comprising Jimin, V, and Jungkook—and the older members known as the “hyung line,”which includes Jin, Suga, and J-hope. Despite RM being older than the maknae line, fans humorously grouped him with the younger members, as he is younger than J-hope.
Social media platforms buzzed with fans sharing their reactions, enjoying the stark differences in the artistic expressions and themes showcased by the younger and older members. One user on X, @adorablepjmn, commented:
“The differences hit another level.”
Another fan observed the contrasting themes evident among the two age groups:
“The hyungs are diving into tracks about fish, power struggles, and personal trauma. Meanwhile, the maknae line is focused on serenading girls and seeking affection. Namjoon seems to be caught in the middle, wanting love while expressing his concerns. OMG…,”a fan quipped.
“The hyungs are clearly in their celestial lover bois era,”another X user humorously noted.
“That’s peak maknae behavior,”another fan pointed out.
Fans expressed their happiness at seeing RM included with the maknae line, a rare occurrence as he usually takes on the leader’s responsibilities.
“At last, Namjoon is properly placed with the maknae line,”one user shared.
“Are you a daughter of an arsonist, a son advocating against capitalism, or a child proposing to a tuna?,”a fan jokingly asked on X.
“The younger members are always wilder than the older ones,”an X user stated.
Exploring the Distinctions in BTS Members’ Music Videos
The fan comparisons highlighted that BTS’s younger members typically explore more mature, romantic, and at times, sensual narratives in their music videos, often delving into themes of love stories, breakups, and intimate interactions with female characters.
In sharp contrast, the music videos from BTS’s elder members display a more whimsical and imaginative nature. A prime example is Jin’s quirky proposal to a tuna in “Super Tuna,”while J-hope’s “My Universe”features a novel romance involving aliens, illustrating their fun-loving approach to various projects.
In RM’s music video titled “Come Back to Me,”the BTS leader shares tender moments with his partner, a child, and another woman, adding depth and maturity to his presentation. Meanwhile, Jimin delivered a passionate performance with his dance in “Who.”
V, known for his charismatic appeal, showcased charming interactions with a female lead in his song “FRI(END)S,”blending playful romance with surrounding couple quarrels. Additionally, in IU’s “Love Wins All,”where V is featured, viewers are treated to a touching wedding sequence. On the contrary, the youngest member, Jungkook, made waves with his provocative hit “Seven,”featuring bold lyrics that delivered an undeniable impact.
“Every hour, every minute, every second, You know night after night, I’ll be f*ckin’ you right, Seven days a week.”
The older members, however, explored different themes. J-hope’s solo tracks like “Arson”and “More”ventured into apocalyptic narratives, while Suga’s solo work “Haeguem”addressed societal concerns, tackling issues such as capitalism, trauma, and mental health.
Conversely, Jin maintained a lighthearted vibe with the playful and quirky concepts evident in his viral “Super Tuna”video.
As the eldest member of BTS gears up for the release of his solo debut album, fans eagerly anticipate the style and themes he will choose to explore next.
