On September 25, the Seoul International Drama Awards experienced backlash concerning the alleged mistreatment of ZEROBASEONE and N.Flying‘s Hwesung. This annual award ceremony marked its first day by inviting a number of K-pop artists for congratulatory performances celebrating the winners.
ZEROBASEONE and N.Flying were included in the artist lineup; however, fans expressed dissatisfaction with the way ZEROBASEONE was treated. Despite being occupied with a world tour, the K-pop boy group managed to make an appearance at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
Fans quickly noticed that ZEROBASEONE’s performance was truncated by a significant commercial break. Moreover, member Ricky’s segment during the GOOD SO BAD performance was completely overshadowed by an advertisement. Reports indicate that the group’s entire performance was hurried.
The members reportedly took the stage, performed without formally greeting the audience, and departed swiftly after their performance. In a similar setback, N.Flying’s Hwesung had his performance canceled at the last minute. His agency subsequently released a now-deleted statement explaining that the cancellation was due to delays in the venue and programming.
Given the reputation of both ZEROBASEONE and N.Flying as leading K-pop artists, it’s no surprise that fans were upset about the alleged disrespect they encountered at the Seoul International Drama Awards. One user on X remarked:
“This is outrageous”
Fans and netizens voiced their opinions regarding this incident.
“Cutting the performance in the middle after inviting them when they are so busy is incredibly frustrating. Wasting their time for real,”commented a fan on X.
“The most ridiculous cut mid-performance. Couldn’t you wait a minute before commercials?”another netizen added.
“All of Ricky’s parts got cut by an ad.. what kind of award show invites an artist but doesn’t give them the airtime they deserve?”stated a fan.
Others called for an apology for the alleged disrespect shown to Hwesung of N.Flying at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
“They need to apologize especially to Hwesung,”a netizen stated.
“What the……this is really unprofessional. No artist should be disrespected like this….,”another user commented.
“So they decided to cancel Hweseung and rushed another artist’s stage. Power abuse,”a netizen added.
“The N.Flying fan club was sitting next to us in disbelief because they spent hours waiting just for their group to be canceled last minute…,”stated a netizen.
Response from Hwesung’s Agency Regarding Cancellation at Seoul International Drama Awards 2024
Following the cancellation of N.Flying’s Hwesung’s performance at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2024, the idol’s agency released a statement in response. In their now-deleted message, they apologized to fans who may have been disappointed due to the last-minute changes in the performance lineup.
The agency explained that Hwesung’s congratulatory performance was canceled because of delays encountered during the event. Consequently, the award ceremony opted to move forward with another artist’s performance instead. The statement included:
“We regret to inform you that the congratulatory performance for the 2024 SBS Seoul Drama Awards has been canceled due to delays at the venue. We sincerely apologize to all fans who have been waiting, and we kindly ask for your understanding once again.”
While this statement was deleted, the idol himself addressed the situation through a Bubble message where he shared:
“I don’t know all the details either. I was just backstage waiting for my turn when I suddenly learned that the stage was canceled and that my performance was skipped. So, I hurriedly went home… I really don’t have much I can share about it. More than anything, I feel bad for the friends who came to see me from early morning and had to keep waiting… I couldn’t properly take care of them, and I’m sorry.”
In light of these occurrences, fans have been seeking an apology from the Seoul International Drama Awards for the perceived disrespect and mistreatment of the artists involved.
