On October 5th, SNL Korea delivered a humorous take on the hit Netflix series Culinary Class Wars during the sixth episode of its fifteenth season. Cast members portrayed various contestants and judges from the Netflix program, much to the delight of fans from both shows.

Viewers quickly took to X to share their enthusiasm. One user expressed:

Fans were thrilled to see SNL Korea accurately depict nuances from Culinary Class Wars, with several commenting that the sketch was “spot on.”

In this episode, comedian Kim Kyu-won impersonates the renowned South Korean chef Baek Jong-won, a judge on Culinary Class Wars, while actor Kwon Hyuk-soo takes on the role of Michelin three-star chef Anh Sung Jae.

The skit highlights the show’s renowned blindfold tasting segment, where contestant chefs, portrayed by additional cast members, prepare culinary creations for the judges to sample. Laughter arises from the over-the-top presentations and the judges’ humorous reactions to the dishes.

SNL Korea’s segment captures Chef Yoon Nam-no, popularly known as “Cooking Dol-ai,”mirroring his distinctive mannerisms and cooking style. Additionally, the skit recreates Chef Jeong Ji-seon’s intricate sugar art, termed ‘Shiraegi Bath Black Vinegar Gangjeong,’ and features unforgettable moments centered around the Bibimbap King. This skit was just one of the comedy acts that unfolded that evening.

Saturday Night Live Korea, commonly referred to as SNL Korea, is a late-night sketch comedy and variety program that began broadcasting on tvN from December 3, 2011, until November 18, 2017, airing Saturdays at 22:50 KST. The series made a comeback on Coupang Play, with its revival premiering on September 4, 2021, at 22:00 KST.

The current cast lineup for SNL Korea’s fifteenth season (2024) on Coupang Play features a blend of experienced and new talent, with familiar names like Shin Dong-yup, Kwon Hyuk-soo, Ahn Young-mi, Kim Kyu-won, Kim Won-hoon, Jung Yi-rang, Jung Sung-ho, and Jung Sang-hoon returning. They are joined by fresh faces such as Kim Min-kyo, Seo Hye-won, and Lee Jin-hyuk.

Notable alumni from previous seasons include Jang Jin, Kim Seul-gi, Jung Myung-ok, Kang Yu-mi, Go Kyung-pyo, Kim Won-hae, Narsha, Seo Eun-kwang, Kim Jun-hyun, Jang Do-yeon, and Yoo Se-yoon.

Culinary Class Wars debuted on Netflix on September 17, 2024, as a South Korean cooking competition reality series. The program features 100 distinguished chefs split into two categories: the “white spoons”for celebrity chefs and the “black spoons”for non-celebrity chefs, all competing for a grand prize of 300 million Korean won.
