The extended version of BTS member Jin’s track “Super Tuna”has claimed the top spot on iTunes charts across 50 countries, prompting a flurry of reactions from fans on social media. Released on October 11, 2024, the song was made available on various music platforms, including iTunes, alongside its official music video on YouTube.
Only a few hours before its release, Jin engaged with his followers during a Weverse Live session, where he shared that he hoped fans would enjoy the song quietly, unlike the original version that became a trending hit in December 2021. The upbeat tune, which revolves around fishing and capturing a tuna, quickly went viral. Fans enthusiastically took part in the “Super Tuna Challenge,”showcasing their dance moves to the official choreography online.
During the live stream, he expressed his desire for a low-key reception of the song, admitting his embarrassment at some of the comedic elements featured in the music video. He stated:
“Please don’t spread it. There’s no challenge. Just enjoy it. Honestly, I felt a bit embarrassed while watching the video, haha.”
Despite Jin’s wishes, “Super Tuna”skyrocketed to number one on both the Worldwide and European iTunes Songs Charts, making fans burst into laughter at their inability to fulfill his request. They took to social media to express their delight and disbelief over Jin’s accomplishment with his solo release.
“Oops, did we do that? Sorry not sorry, Jin,”one fan commented.
“Isn’t it ironic that it topped the charts when Seokjin specifically asked us not to? Jin, you brought this upon yourself for deleting Part 1,” a fan added.
“Seokjin says ‘don’t spread it,’ and it achieves global success—what a twist!” noted another user.
Netizens also highlighted Jin’s significant influence over his followers and music fans.
“We’ve embarrassed him successfully; now we wait for his love to face some proper consequences,” one fan quipped.
“I love how both Jin and ARMY are playful. He previewed the MV 15 hours ahead of time, deleted the original “Super Tuna”that had over 100 million streams, and despite saying not to promote it, ARMYs catapulted it to number one on the US iTunes chart,” another user remarked.
“A song that’s two years old, with some new verses, announced just 16 hours prior to its release—no pre-saves or promotions—and still debuted at number one on the worldwide iTunes chart,” noted a fan.
Fans continued to share humorous responses to the song’s impressive ranking on international charts.
“Jin asking ARMY not to go overboard with promoting the song, while ARMYs just can’t resist,” a user joked.
“A lighthearted track achieving serious chart success,” commented another user.
