Many players of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket have only just come to the realization that they can still access and open Genetic Apex booster packs. This newfound awareness has led to a surge of complaints regarding the game’s user interface, which users find perplexing.
Since its launch on January 29, the Space-Time Smackdown set marks the latest addition to the popular mobile game, following the Genetic Apex and Mythical Island expansions. This release is the third expansion since the game’s debut in late October 2024.
Just four days after the Space-Time Smackdown’s introduction, players are discovering that the Genetic Apex boosters are indeed still available. The confusion originated from a new feature in which only the two latest expansions are displayed on the home screen. Previously, all available packs were visible, leading many players to mistakenly believe that access to the Genetic Apex expansion had been revoked. To find these packs, players must select the “Choose other booster packs”option located in the bottom-right corner of the selection screen, just above the menu icon.
Amidst the growing user frustrations, Redditor JesperTV proposed a redesign for the user interface that he believes would be more intuitive. His suggestion involves reorganizing the home screen to feature one slot for each available expansion pack, rather than placing the Mythical Island pack next to the two latest Space-Time Smackdown boosters. This approach could evolve into a carousel menu if additional expansions are released, enabling users to easily scroll through all available packs. JesperTV’s idea garnered significant attention, reaching the front page of the r/PTCGP subreddit on February 2, indicating considerable support from the dedicated Pokémon TCG Pocket community. This conversation also prompted many players to recognize that Genetic Apex booster packs could still be acquired.

Discussions among players have spurred numerous theories regarding DeNA’s design strategy for the booster pack selection interface.
