As reported by Star News, NCT’s Jaehyun is set to drop a new digital track titled Unconditional before embarking on his mandatory military service, with its release scheduled for October 24, 2024. He will enlist on November 4, 2024.
During a fansign event in Thailand on October 17, the NCT star teased upcoming music, leading to an official announcement from his agency that stirred a mix of emotions among fans. Given the trend of other K-pop idols releasing tracks before their enlistment, anticipation for Jaehyun’s new single is notably high.
“It’s well-known that pre-enlistment releases are always exceptional. Songs like Kai’s Rover and Taemin’s Advice have made a significant impact,”
Many male idols from prominent groups like EXO, BTS, and SHINee have released music just prior to their military duties, solidifying the category of “pre-enlistment”songs. Standouts such as EXO’s Rover, Baekhyun’s Bambi, Taemin’s Advice, BTS’s Jungkook’s Standing Next To You, and Jimin’s Closer Than This have captivated K-pop enthusiasts.
Upon learning about the poignant title of his new song, Unconditional, many fans shared their emotional responses. Even casual listeners who were brought into Jaehyun’s musical world through his debut solo album, J, expressed their enthusiasm.
“I’m not an avid NCT follower, but his album really resonated with me, and I’m definitely checking this out,”- a Twitter user commented.
“I have a feeling this song is going to hit me hard,”- another fan expressed.
“Is this meant to be a farewell track…,”- a user questioned.
Notably, fans recognized that the song’s title echoed a phrase Jaehyun used in a letter to his supporters on the Bubble app. In a heartfelt message about his enlistment shared on September 26, 2024, Jaehyun concluded with the words:
“We’re unconditionally timeless.”
Several fans remarked on how the lyrics connected with them emotionally after hearing the announcement.
“I’m not ready for him to leave,”- an NCTzen shared.
“I’m seriously about to cry,”- another follower echoed.
“The line ‘we’re unconditionally timeless…’ probably refers to some of the lyrics from Unconditional. We feel so cherished,”- a devoted fan remarked.
Furthermore, Jaehyun’s Bubble account will be inaccessible during his military service starting November 4, 2024.
NCT Jaehyun to Host First Solo Fan Concert Mute Before Enlistment
On October 17, 2024, NCT’s official social media channels revealed that Jaehyun will conduct a fan concert titled Mute at the Olympic Park Handball Stadium in Seoul on October 26 and 27. The final day’s performance will be streamed live across various platforms including Beyond LIVE and Weverse.
NCT Jaehyun will serve with the Army Band within the South Korean military. To ensure the privacy and safety of all recruits, no public event will take place during his enlistment. Jaehyun ranks as the second NCT member to enter military service after Taeyong, who joined the South Korean Navy band in April 2024.
For context, the singer made his solo debut in August 2024 with the album J, featuring songs like Smoke, Dandelion, Roses, and Completely. Additionally, he recently debuted on the silver screen alongside Park Ju-hyun and Kwak Shi-yang in the film You Will Die In 6 Hours.
Since 2022, he has represented the Italian luxury label Prada and was named the new ambassador for the cosmetic brand CLIO in August 2024.
Unconditional is set to launch on October 24 at 6 PM KST across all major streaming services, including Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. Following this, he will hold his inaugural solo fan concert in Seoul two days later.
