Season 12 of The Masked Singer aired its latest episode on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, celebrating Footloose Night in honor of the 40th anniversary of the iconic film.
In the previous episode, the series bid goodbye to Leaf Sheep, who unmasked himself to reveal two-time Super Bowl champion John Elway. In the newest episode, four more contestants from Group A showcased their singing abilities and tried to trick the panelists: Showbird, Ship, Woodpecker, and Buffalos.
As the episode concluded, the contestant with the fewest audience votes faced elimination. Unfortunately, Showbird ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard and had to unmask herself, revealing actress Yvette Nicole Brown beneath the costume, much to the viewers’ surprise.
Fans of The Masked Singer took to social media platform X to voice their disappointment regarding Showbird’s elimination, arguing that Yvette deserved to remain in the competition longer due to her impressive vocal talent.
“Showbird did NOT deserve the ax this week,”a fan wrote.
“Showbird should not have been kicked off this week she was WAY better than Woodpecker,”another fan commented.
“Showbird is going home; she was good too,”a netizen tweeted.

The Masked Singer Panelist Ken Jeong Correctly Guessed Showbird’s Identity
As the first performer of the night, Showbird shared in her clue package that she always wanted to “do something good”if she ever appeared “in front of the lights.”Thus, she conveyed her commitment to her work, stating she “was married to it.”
Despite her dedication, she expressed a sense of unfulfillment, yearning for the “real love”portrayed by characters Ren and Aiel in Footloose. Her clues also hinted at a recent encounter with “an old friend bird”who inspired her as her “lovebird.”
“He’s encouraged me to rekindle my first flame, one I gave up for two decades – singing. But his love helped me find that carefree confidence again, which led me here. So tonight, let’s hear it for my baby! My lovebird,”Showbird said.
The visual clues for Showbird included diamond rings in various colors, binoculars, and a purple cupcake. Soon after, she performed Deniece Williams’ Let’s Hear It For The Boy. For her additional clue, the Men in Black presented a music box that played a hip-hop track. This led Showbird to express that it aligned more with her “vibe”as it brought back memories of 1994 when she was “part of a hip-hop empire.”
After scrutinizing the clues, the panelists made their guesses about Showbird’s identity. Ken Jeong believed she was Yvette Nicole Brown, while Jenny and Rita speculated she could be Taraji P. Henson or Sheila E., respectively. When the voting results were announced, it was revealed that Showbird had received the lowest votes, resulting in her elimination. She removed her feathered mask to disclose that she indeed was the Community star, Yvette Nicole Brown.
The Masked Singer airs every Wednesday at 8 PM ET exclusively on FOX.
