Fans Criticize BIGHIT MUSIC for ‘HIT IT BASE 2024’ Hip-Hop Training Program Targeting Boys Born Between 2006 and 2014

On September 30, 2024, BIGHIT MUSIC introduced its hip-hop training initiative, ‘HIT IT BASE 2024,’ aimed at teenage male applicants. Interested participants must have been born between 2006 and 2014 to qualify for this complimentary program.

According to Star News, selected candidates will engage in a comprehensive learning experience from November 9 to December 15, 2024. This training will cover essential topics such as song production techniques, stage preparation, and performance style, facilitated by industry professionals. Following the program, participants will showcase their talents in the ‘Final Show,’ akin to notable K-pop talent competitions like I-Land and Pop Star Academy.

Male applicants can submit their applications online through the official BIGHIT MUSIC website from September 30 to October 27, 2024. The finale of ‘HIT IT BASE 2024’ will be hosted by YouTuber Mimi Minu. Exceptional candidates may also have the chance to be featured on Rising Verse on Dingo Music’s YouTube channel, Dingo’s Freestyle. Additionally, the renowned rapper Kid Milli will make a special appearance during the ‘Final Show’ finale.

However, the announcement sparked mixed reactions among netizens, particularly concerning the eligibility of applicants as young as 10 years old. Some expressed worries about the intense pressures of K-pop training, which is known for its rigorous standards. One X user remarked,

“2006 – 2014??? Those are kids.”

Many fans echoed concerns that the K-pop environment may not be suitable for such young children.

“How about we move the years down to 2000 and 2009…. Children should not be exposed to these types of environments,”wrote one fan.

“I will refrain from hearting this until I see more details. Right now, from what I read, it is more of a mentorship than a competition show. I personally would like to see the participants’ progress from the start to the showcase at the conclusion,”said another fan.

“Why such young kids?? 2009-2014 is way too young for this; K-pop needs a revamp, istg,”voiced another user.

In contrast, a number of fans expressed excitement about the show and the prospect of a new wave of K-pop idols, with some humorously addressing the age cutoffs.

“That sounds like a fantastic opportunity! Excited to see the young talent that emerges from Big Hit Music’s ‘HIT IT BASE 2024′ program!”wrote one user.

“Got moves and flows? Then let’s go! HIT IT BASE is where legends grow!”enthused another user.

“Why are all the cutoffs 2006? Is it time to give up on the idol dream??”asked yet another fan.
