On October 18, 2024, BLACKPINK’s very own Rosé made waves in the music scene with the launch of her solo single titled APT., featuring the talented Bruno Mars. The excitement built up a day prior when Rosé hinted at this collaboration through her Instagram, following a playful comment from Mars on her post. Fans were eager and buzzing with anticipation as they awaited the new song and its accompanying official music video.
Many supporters began to draw parallels between Rosé and Canadian artist Avril Lavigne, known for her iconic pop-punk hits such as Sk8er Boi and Complicated. With an impressive eight Grammy nominations under her belt, Lavigne has significantly influenced female-led pop-punk throughout the 2000s.
A fan took to X to dub Rosé the “new pop-punk princess,”stating:
“Welcome everyone’s new fav pop-punk princess.”
The release of APT. sparked a flurry of discussions on social media, with followers noting how the music video evoked memories of Lavigne’s visuals from the 2000s.
“THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT AFTER I HEARD THE ENTIRE SONG. AS AVRIL LISTENER SINCE I WAS A KID, THIS IS BEYOND EXTREME HAPPINESS,”a fan exclaimed.
“Omg yes yes, the first thing that came to my mind was the reminiscent vibe of Avril Lavigne and classic films,”another supporter wrote.
“I’m so relieved I’m not alone in feeling that this is so Avril Lavigne-coded, and I’m in love with it,”one more fan noted.
Others went as far as to label her “the Avril Lavigne of this era.”
“She’s truly the Avril Lavigne of this generation,”one fan stated.
“I always envisioned she would release something akin to Avril Lavigne,”another fan remarked.
“THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! She really sounded like Avril on my first listen,”one more enthusiast emphasized.
