BTS member Kim Taehyung, known by his stage name V, began his military service in South Korea on December 11, 2023. He was subsequently assigned to the elite Special Duty Team (SDT) in January 2024, becoming the only member of BTS to undertake this role. On October 4, 2024, the Republic of Korea Army (ROK Army) released a new episode of their YouTube webtoon series, SDT (Military Police Special Forces), season 7, episode 3, titled “Training is like an operation!”
In this latest episode, there were clever hints referencing Taehyung’s involvement. Though he did not appear directly due to his active duty, his stage name “V”was seamlessly woven into several dialogues. The episode portrayed a new recruit in the Special Duty Team (SDT) division, with the narrator commenting,
“This place where the ‘V’ (view) is good is mine soon!~ the building ‘V’ (view) is also good. the futsal field ‘V’ (view) is also good. the running track ‘V’ (view) is also good.”
Fans observed that the narrator stressed the word “view”as “V,”showcasing a playful nod to the K-pop star’s contributions. Many speculated that this was the military’s way of expressing pride in V’s enlistment.
Additionally, the official YouTube channel of the ROK Army highlighted a fan comment about discovering the SDT and its rigorous training regimen due to Taehyung’s enlistment.
The BTS fandom expressed joy at the ROK Army’s subtle acknowledgment of the idol in their webtoon series. One fan took to social media platform X to share their thoughts,
“They are so proud of him.”
Supporters flooded X discussing the positive impact of BTS V’s military service in South Korea. Many referred to him as a “national treasure.”

“Now this is what we call impact. You don’t have to talk; your actions do the talking for you. V is always a shining star wherever he goes; imagine how proud his parents must be,”another fan wrote.
“They can’t show him, but they sure can and will mention him! CAPTAIN KOREA TAEHYUNG”one other fan added.
Others fondly referred to him as “Nation’s Prince”for the love and respect he has garnered within the military.

According to a report from NextShark, training with the Special Duty Team (SDT) includes rappelling, preliminary rifle instruction, marksmanship training, close-quarter combat skills, automatic rifle training, and rigorous physical fitness exercises.
Moreover, SDT soldiers participate in guerrilla warfare, special reconnaissance, non-traditional warfare, direct action, gathering intelligence in hostile environments, and conducting counter-terrorism operations.
On April 17, 2024, images from a South Korean promotional SDT video surfaced online, showcasing BTS’ V in an SDT black ops uniform, skillfully handling rifles. By September, he was seen participating in a firing drill during training.
The singer-songwriter, known for “Love Me Again,” concluded his five-week military training on January 16, 2024, graduating as an Elite Soldier and being assigned to the 2nd Military Corps SDT base on January 18, 2024.
In additional news, BTS members Namjoon, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook are also serving in the military and are expected to reunite with V in June 2025 to recommence group activities. Meanwhile, BTS’ j-hope is scheduled to be discharged from the military on October 17, 2024.
