Fans Celebrate Bruno Oppa’s First Music Show Win at MCountdown for ‘APT’ Featuring BLACKPINK’s Rosé

On Thursday, October 24, the latest episode of MCountdown saw BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars winning their first show triumph together, igniting a wave of excitement among fans. MCountdown, a popular music program produced by Mnet, takes place every week at the CJ E&M Center Studio in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul. Each Thursday, ten artists are evaluated based on their sales figures and fan votes.

The performer who secures the top spot receives a trophy, while other artists who have recently made comebacks or released new music also showcase their performances during the show. For this week’s episode, BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars’s track “APT”achieved the highest ranking on MCountdown, marking Bruno Mars’ inaugural win on a music show.

Typically, MCountdown and similar programs spotlight the Korean music scene, leaving artists from outside this realm unable to win unless they collaborate or feature on a track with K-pop artists. Thus, Rosé’s partnership with Bruno Mars, which saw significant sales and fan votes, led to this milestone for the American superstar.

The announcement of the MCountdown winner prompted a frenzy among fans, who expressed their delight not only for the song’s achievement but also for the recognition granted to the American artist in the wider music community. Social media platforms, particularly X, were flooded with celebratory messages directed towards Bruno Mars. Here are some reactions:

Everything You Need to Know About BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars’ Collaboration, APT

On October 18, Rosé from BLACKPINK and Bruno Mars unveiled their collaborative single, APT, under The Black Label and Atlantic Records. This track serves as the lead single for Rosé’s solo debut album, Rosie.

Aptly named, APT is an abbreviation of the Korean term APATEU, which means “apartment.”The title also references a popular Korean drinking game. Rosé revealed in an interview that the musical concept originated during a studio hangout with Bruno and others, where she introduced them to the drinking game.

Spontaneously, Rosé engaged her friends in the Korean game, and from that moment, inspiration for the song blossomed. She shared her thoughts about creating a song based on a drinking game during an interview with Vogue:

“‘APT’ is the title of my new single, and it’s actually a Korean drinking game I love to play with friends. We were just hanging out in the studio, and I thought it would be fun to teach them some Korean drinking games, which led to the song.”

Despite her initial worries about whether penning a song about a drinking game was appropriate, the track has turned into a viral hit, with fans and social media users worldwide raving about it while joining in on dance challenges on TikTok and Instagram reels.
