Recently, Randy Jackson found himself at the center of the controversy involving Janet Jackson and Vice President Kamala Harris. According to an article published by Daily Beast on September 22, a person claiming to be Janet’s former manager alleged that both Janet and her brother Randy terminated his services.
Variety later confirmed that this individual, named Mo Elmasri, never managed Janet Jackson. Elmasri had claimed to have disagreements with the Jackson siblings regarding a The Guardian article in which Janet made some controversial statements about Kamala Harris. Elmasri told the outlet:
“Janet Jackson fired me due to disagreements between me, her, and Randy, after her meeting with The Guardian and her unbalanced statements.”
While Elmasri chose not to elaborate further, he did express support for Harris. The situation escalated when he reportedly issued an apology on behalf of Janet without her consent after Janet faced backlash online for her comments regarding Kamala Harris.
For those unfamiliar, Randy Jackson is Michael Jackson’s younger brother and is the second youngest of the nine Jackson siblings. He was an official member of The Jackson 5 from 1975 to 1989. Born in 1961, he joined the group after his brother Jermaine departed. Randy also received a Grammy nomination in 1989 for his contributions to the album titled “Triumph.”
All You Need to Know About Randy Jackson, American Musician and Michael Jackson’s Younger Brother
Randy Jackson is the ninth child in the Jackson family. Initially, he was not part of the pop band and only played with them in 1971. From 1972 onwards, he participated in all the band’s tours but officially became a member in 1975. According to Randy’s official website:
“Randy quickly became an integral part of the group with his wide range of musical talents in songwriting as well as being accomplished in many instruments.”
After the band’s disbandment in 1990, Randy pursued solo projects and formed his own band, Randy & the Gypsys. They released one album before disbanding. In 1998, Randy established his own record label, Modern Records.
Currently, he is a co-partner at Rhythm Nation Records alongside Janet Jackson. This record label is independently owned by Janet, the youngest sibling in the Jackson family.
Over the years, Randy Jackson has encountered legal challenges. In January 1991, he faced battery charges for allegedly hitting his wife Eliza Shaffy and their then 7-month-old daughter Stevanna, to which he pleaded no contest. He was arrested again later that year after Eliza reported ongoing abuse. In 1996, Randy filed for bankruptcy and had to surrender his shares in Modern Records.
Returning to the present situation involving Janet and her alleged former manager, it is important to note that Randy Jackson, and not anyone else, is the one who manages Janet.
