In an exciting twist for fans of the Fallout universe, a recent theory has emerged suggesting that The Ghoul’s wife, Barb Howard, may be linked to a character from the acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas. This esteemed action role-playing game, released in 2010, unfolds in the Mojave Desert 204 years post nuclear devastation. The anticipated second season of the Amazon live-action series aims to spotlight iconic locations from New Vegas, including Rita’s Café and the Atomic Wrangler, enriching the storyline further.
The series features a talented cast, including Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, and Walton Goggins, with creative direction by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Released in April 2024, the show has effectively captured the essence of the iconic franchise, earning recognition and accolades, including Best Adaptation at The Game Awards 2024. Notably, Walton Goggins’ portrayal of The Ghoul contributed to Bethesda’s decision to introduce playable Ghouls in the latest installment of the series, with fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming season 20 update of Fallout 76, anticipated in March 2025.
The Theory: Barb Could Return as Jane from New Vegas

A Reddit user known as YourFallout76trader recently proposed that Barb Howard might re-emerge as Jane, the Securitron from Fallout: New Vegas, during season 2. This speculation is rooted in an image shared on the show’s subreddit, which juxtaposes Jane from the Lucky 38 Penthouse with Barb from the Amazon series. Considering the pivotal role New Vegas is expected to play in the forthcoming season, fans are intrigued by the notion that Barb could assume the identity of the “Keeper of the Snow Globe collection, ”especially given Barb’s mysterious status at the conclusion of season 1.
Fans have pointed out that Jane is a PDQ-88b Mk 1 Securitron, distinct from the more recognized Mister Handy model. The discussion surrounding this theory has also highlighted similarities in facial structure and hairstyle between Jane and Barb, suggesting potential connections. However, some community members raised concerns about how Barb might interact with Mr. House, especially considering the evident differences in their respective voices. Nevertheless, Mr. House made a notable cameo during the season 1 finale, potentially laying the groundwork for his storyline in season 2.

As anticipation for season 2 builds, viewers can expect to follow the narrative journey initiated in the first season’s gripping finale, which set the stage for Hank MacLean (portrayed by MacLachlan) as he embarks on a journey towards Sin City. Additionally, Lucy (played by Purnell) and The Ghoul (Goggins) will persist in their quest to locate more Vault-Tec members. Goggins has also shared an exclusive look at The Ghoul’s intricate make-up transformation process required for his role. Excitingly, Macaulay Culkin has been confirmed to join the cast in season 2, in a role characterized as a “crazy genius-type character, ”spicing up the ensemble.
Although a release date for Fallout season 2 has yet to be announced, predictions suggest it will premiere in early to mid-2026.
