Discover the New Ghoul Experience in Fallout 76
In the expansive world of Fallout, Ghouls have long been iconic figures—radiated humans transformed into zombie-like entities, showcasing both human-like appearances and feral traits. While players have navigated the wastelands filled with these creatures, the opportunity to embody one has eluded them until now. With the advent of Fallout 76’s latest season, players can finally experience the thrill of becoming a full-fledged Ghoul.
Leap of Faith: Your Journey to Becoming a Ghoul
As part of a significant update, Fallout 76 introduces the Leap of Faith questline, providing players with the chance to transform into a Ghoul. This exciting new feature brings unique gameplay mechanics, setting Ghouls apart from their human counterparts, termed “Smooth-skin.”Most notably, Ghouls enjoy immunity to the detrimental effects of radiation and are free from managing Hunger and Thirst meters.
Reveling in Radiation: The Ghoul Advantage
One of the fascinating aspects of being a Ghoul is the ability to absorb radiation, which enhances their “Glow.”This glow not only heals damage and expands health pools but also unlocks new perks when Ghouls are exposed to radiation or consume irradiated food and water. However, with great power comes challenges—.
The Feral Meter: A Double-Edged Sword
Despite the advantages, Ghouls also face the ever-present threat of succumbing to their feral instincts. Players must carefully manage their Feral meter, which depletes over time and can only be replenished by consuming Chems. Interestingly, maintaining a lower meter can provide strategic bonuses and penalties, adding a layer of complexity to gameplay:
Becoming a Ghoul sheds the need to sate your hunger and thirst. Instead, you battle against a gnawing desire to slip back into your base nature, abandoning all sanity you might have had. The new Feral meter drains over time and can only be filled back up by consuming Chems. You may not want to keep that meter 100% filled though. Your Feral status provides different bonuses and penalties depending on how full the meter is.
- Above 80%: +3 Strength, +3 Endurance, +30 Max HP
- Above 60%: +15 Max HP
- Above 40%: -1 Endurance, -5 Max HP

New Perk Cards and Hostile Factions
Bethesda has also introduced a variety of new Perk Cards specifically designed for Ghoul characters, while some perks suited for humans have been phased out. Players should be aware that certain factions, such as the Brotherhood of Steel, may harbor hostility towards Ghouls. To navigate these adversarial encounters, players will need to employ disguises to access locked questlines.
Reverting Back to Human Form
If players wish to revert to their human status, this can be accomplished through the Character Screen. Caution is advised, as the return to Ghoul form afterward requires a payment of 1000 Atoms (approximately $10).This mechanic ensures that the choice to become a Ghoul remains significant and engaging.
