Fact Check: Is the Viral Instagram Video of Diddy from Prison Authentic? Debunking the Claims

A video featuring Sean “Diddy”Combs purportedly speaking from prison has become a viral sensation. The footage, shared by Instagram user @bigdru1 on September 25 with the caption “DIDDY COMBS SPEAKS FROM PRISON,”shows the rapper seated in a room discussing how overwhelming his situation is and his struggle to comprehend recent events.

“Money will be used properly, um but as you know as, as I’m glued to the TV and you know I’m trying to figure out like, like, like just what’s even going on like, like how is this happening, and um, sometimes it’s like you know, I got to turn the TV off because it’s like, it’s so overwhelming… um, nowhere near as overwhelming as it must be,”Diddy expressed in the clip.

As reported by Reuters, this excerpt originates from a six-minute video entitled Diddy Blog#1001….A message to Haiti, which was uploaded to his YouTube channel following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti in January 2010. The clip raises concerns due to several inconsistencies, such as the rapper wearing casual clothing instead of prison attire.

The environment depicted in the video resembled a bedroom rather than a jail cell. Additionally, the mention of money being used appropriately seemed unrelated to his current predicament.

This video segment has been circulated across various social media platforms. A user on X, @AmericaPapaBear, reposted the video, garnering over 324.6K views at the time of writing. The post was accompanied by a community note cautioning viewers about the presence of “digitally altered content.”

Diddy’s Upcoming Court Appearance on October 9

Diddy is scheduled to appear in court on October 9, 2024. In the meantime, his legal team has filed an appeal against the denial of his bail on September 30. The rapper has been denied bail on two occasions, despite offering a $50 million bond among other conditions.

Combs is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, which is notorious for its inadequate living conditions and internal crime. During the arraignment hearing on September 17, Marc Agnifilo argued that this facility is unsuitable for pre-trial detainment due to its unfavorable reputation. However, no updates have been provided regarding Diddy’s potential transfer to a different facility at the time of this report.

Diddy was arrested on September 16 for alleged “racketeering, s*x trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.”The indictment claims that the rapper used his fame and fortune to exploit women, stating:

“From at least 2008 through the present, Combs led a criminal enterprise that existed to facilitate his abuse and exploitation of women, to protect his reputation, and to conceal his conduct. As part of that criminal enterprise, Combs, along with other members and associates of the enterprise, committed crimes including s*x trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice.”

Court documents allege that the rapper engaged in “freak offs,”where he purportedly coerced women into sexual performances with male escorts. These events were allegedly recorded and used to intimidate victims into silence. Evidence of the alleged “freak offs”was reportedly uncovered by Homeland Security during raids on the rapper’s residences in March 2024.

In addition to facing s*x trafficking charges, Diddy has been named in 12 lawsuits from various alleged victims who accuse him of r*pe, abuse, and physical assault. He has denied all allegations presented in these lawsuits.
