Fact Check: Is the Claim True That Justin Bieber Sued Ellen DeGeneres for Exploiting Him as a Minor? Debunking the Viral YouTube Story

Five months ago, a claim surfaced online stating that singer Justin Bieber had filed a lawsuit against comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. This information was first shared as a video on YouTube by the channel Shocked on April 24, 2024.

“Ellen DeGeneres BREAKS DOWN After Justin Bieber SUED Her For Misusing Him When He Was A Minor,” the video caption read.

The video quickly gained attention, amassing over 189,572 views, 2,700 likes, and 566 comments at the time of this writing.

However, this now-viral rumor has been confirmed as false. According to Snopes, there is no legal documentation to back these claims, nor have any reputable media outlets reported on the alleged lawsuit. Additionally, the bio of the YouTube channel Shocked describes it as “your ultimate destination for celebrity gossip,” suggesting that the content may often be purely for entertainment purposes.

Justin Bieber has never sued Ellen DeGeneres

Earlier this year, a video circulated on social media platforms making the unsupported claim that Justin Bieber was suing Ellen DeGeneres for “misusing” him during his underage years. Initially uploaded by the YouTube channel Shocked, the video was titled “Exclusive: Ellen Slept with Justin.”

Accompanied by a collage of three images—one showing Ellen hugging Justin from behind, another depicting DeGeneres with disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean Combs, and the last displaying a teary-eyed DeGeneres—the 20-minute and 16-second video failed to provide valid evidence for its controversial claims.

Instead, it featured various clips of Ellen DeGeneres’ previous interactions with Justin, particularly from her former eponymous show, where he made 37 appearances over the years, as per Snopes. The video included snippets from the Justice crooner’s old interviews and events, including moments with his former mentor, Diddy. None of this content offered credible backing to support the allegations that Bieber had filed a lawsuit against the multi-time Daytime Emmy winner.

Furthermore, the video description was vague and suggested that Diddy’s ongoing legal struggles were connected to the purported lawsuit Justin Bieber had supposedly filed against DeGeneres.

“Every time someone new comes forward to expose Diddy’s shady dealings, they’re shining a spotlight on others who were in cahoots with him. And now, it looks like Justin Bieber is gearing up to take legal action against none other than Ellen DeGeneres!” it claimed.

“Justin reportedly has some serious allegations against Ellen, claiming she was involved in some shady business when he was just a minor. If these rumors turn out to be true, Ellen could be facing serious prison time.”

Despite this, Snopes confirmed that there were no court documents substantiating these allegations. Thus, the viral video can be categorized as false, fabricated, and unfounded, seemingly designed to mislead viewers during the ongoing Diddy scandal.

Sean Combs was taken into federal custody on September 16, facing charges related to racketeering conspiracy, s*x trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Following this, the five-month-old rumors concerning Justin Bieber and Ellen DeGeneres recirculated on Facebook on September 27 in a now-removed post.

Prior to this, in May and June of this year, the video was republished by supposed gossip channels on YouTube, Celeb Talk and Viral Film Talk, respectively. However, both videos were found to be fabricated, along with many others shared on TikTok following federal raids at Sean Combs’ residences in Miami and Los Angeles in March.

Ellen DeGeneres has maintained a public friendship with Diddy over the years, often appearing together at red-carpet events, parties, and on her talk show. Conversely, Bieber has developed his music career under the guidance of Sean Combs, who has been his long-time collaborator.

After Diddy’s recent arrest, a song titled Lost Myself At a Diddy Party emerged online, featuring vocals resembling Justin’s. However, it was later revealed to be AI-generated.
