Fact Check: Is Nicki Minaj’s 2024 Donald Trump Endorsement Claim Valid? Exploring the Viral Video Evidence
On October 28, rumors began to circulate on social media suggesting that Nicki Minaj had publicly endorsed Donald Trump for the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The speculation originated from a video shared on X, in which the rapper appeared to be conversing with a man believed to be her spouse, Kenneth Petty.
In the footage, Minaj referred to the man as “Chucky” and expressed gratitude for helping her obtain a green card and American citizenship.
“Thanks to you being an American, I can now complete the necessary forms and vote in the United States, and I want to express my appreciation to my fans and everyone who supported me,” Minaj remarked in the video.
However, this viral video is not new and does not pertain to the ongoing 2024 election campaign. According to Times Now, Rob Smith, a podcaster and Trump supporter, clarified that the footage dates back to 2019.
“UPDATE: This clip is from 2019 when Trump was in office. Apologies for the misinformation! Let us maintain our hope for the next election!”Smith commented in a now-deleted tweet.
It is important to note that Nicki Minaj has repeatedly stated that she is not a U.S. citizen, including during a TikTok Live session last month.
Nicki Minaj has not endorsed Donald Trump for 2024
A video that surfaced on Monday features rapper Nicki Minaj discussing her status as a green card holder and expressing her right to vote, explicitly mentioning her support for Republican candidate Donald Trump.
While conservative viewers interpreted this as an endorsement for the current electoral cycle, the video, which includes animated filters, was revealed to be over five years old, originating when Trump was serving as president.
This clip was reportedly created as a Halloween joke on Snapchat. In reality, Nicki Minaj has admitted that she is not a U.S. citizen and therefore lacks the right to vote.
In September 2024, the hitmaker of “Anaconda”made an unexpected revelation regarding her immigration status during a TikTok Live session. While responding to a fan seeking her guidance for a personal issue, she stated:
“I am not a U.S. citizen. Isn’t that wild?… I was born on the stunning island of Trinidad and Tobago. I’ve lived in the States for many years. You would assume that after contributing millions in taxes, I would have been granted an honorary citizenship long ago.”
Back in 2018, Nicki Minaj also discussed her immigration experiences on Instagram while advocating for the rights of immigrants. She shared her journey to the U.S. as an “illegal immigrant” at the age of five, along with images from an immigration shelter.
“I cannot fathom the fear of being in a foreign place and having my parents taken away from me at the age of 5. The thought terrifies me. We need to stop this. Can you imagine the horror & anxiety these children are experiencing? Not knowing if their parents are alive or if they’ll reunite ever again,” she posted at the time.
During that period, she criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies, particularly regarding the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.
