Fact Check: Is It True That Leonardo DiCaprio Left the Country After Diddy’s Arrest? Debunking the Viral Headline

Recently, an unfounded claim circulated online suggesting that actor and film producer Leonardo DiCaprio had left the country amidst the legal troubles of Sean “Diddy” Combs. This assertion first emerged on Instagram as a reel on September 27, shared by @notoriouskingvr.

“FBI reveals Leonardo DiCaprio has fled the country after Diddy warned him?!” read the reel’s headline.

The reel featured a collage of images of Diddy and the Titanic star, alongside what appeared to be a news clipping titled, “Just Now: Leo left the US.”

However, the viral post has proven to be false. The Instagram reel fails to provide any credible evidence supporting its claim. Additionally, the caption contained irrelevant and vague references to the Tesla Cybertruck.

Leonardo DiCaprio has not fled the USA due to Diddy’s recent arrest

Last week, rumors circulated across social media platforms that Leonardo DiCaprio had departed from the USA following Sean Combs’ arrest and federal indictment on September 16, reportedly triggered by a threat from Diddy. The rumor initially gained traction on Instagram, accumulating over 89,000 likes.

Later, the claim spread to Facebook, resulting in over 96,000 reactions, 3,400 comments, and 1,800 shares. Nevertheless, the reel included a lengthy caption focused on the “all-electric pickup truck” developed by Elon Musk’s Tesla, without substantiating the rumor about DiCaprio.

As a result, the claim is deemed false, unfounded, and fabricated, created for the purpose of misleading and entertainment.

Additionally, similar claims appeared on YouTube last week from channels such as Viral Stars, PassedUs, and Binge Central. However, none provided verifiable proof to support the assertions, leading to the conclusion that these are merely clickbait. Furthermore, no major media outlets have reported that the Wolf of Wall Street star has escaped the USA in connection with the ongoing Diddy controversy.

Rumors have also circulated on social media that personalities like Jay-Z and Steve Harvey have left the USA amidst the Diddy scandal, but these claims remain unproven.

Examining Leonardo DiCaprio’s connection to Sean Combs

Sean Combs was taken into federal custody on September 16 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in New York City following a grand jury indictment. He faces multiple felony charges, including racketeering conspiracy, s*x trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

After his arrest, several old photos resurfaced online, showing individuals like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Aaliyah, Paris Hilton, Ashton Kutcher, Mariah Carey, and others at Diddy’s notorious white parties.

One picture showed Diddy, DiCaprio, and friends smoking while holding glasses that appeared to contain champagne, allegedly taken at a White Party at the rapper’s East Hampton home in 1998.

However, it is unclear if these events related to the “freak off” parties now investigated by federal authorities as “elaborate s*x performances,” where underaged girls were allegedly coerced into s*xual activities with male prostitutes.

In 2018, Diddy stated to Vogue that DiCaprio was “number 1” on his guest list for the White Parties. In response, a source close to The Revenant actor informed Daily Mail that DiCaprio has “not been in contact” with Diddy for many years.

The insider also noted that although the Oscar winner attended a few of Diddy’s parties back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was never involved in “freak offs” and had no connection to the Diddy scandal. They emphasized that Leonardo DiCaprio is focused on his career and personal life, without concern for Combs’ legal issues.

Throughout the years, DiCaprio has been spotted with Diddy at various events, including the 2024 Democratic National Convention and Diddy’s 50th birthday celebration in 2019.

Diddy is currently held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center without bond, placed under “procedural” suicide watch, as he awaits trial. He pleaded “not guilty” on September 17 after being arraigned at the Manhattan Federal Court, where he was denied bail twice. If convicted, he faces 15 years to life in federal prison.
