Fable Reboot Delayed to 2026 by Playground Games
In a surprising announcement back in 2020, Playground Games, renowned for its acclaimed Forza Horizon racing series, confirmed that it would revive the beloved Fable franchise for Xbox enthusiasts. Since then, updates about this eagerly awaited reboot have been somewhat limited, with only a few trailers showcased during various Xbox gaming events. While earlier teasers hinted at a 2025 release, recent developments have officially postponed the launch to 2026.
Official Delay Announcement
The update regarding the delay was shared during the official Xbox Podcast, featuring remarks from Craig Duncan, the Head of Xbox Game Studios. He stated:
“We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025, we are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait.”
New Gameplay Insights
Despite the delayed launch, Duncan showcased some exciting new gameplay footage during the podcast. Viewers can catch the pre-alpha footage starting around the 16-minute mark, featuring stunning visuals of expansive cities, scenic horse riding, and dynamic combat against both human foes and mythical creatures. One particularly amusing moment includes a chicken-kicking scene, a nod to the franchise’s quirky humor.
Craig Duncan’s Impressions
Duncan shared his enthusiastic thoughts after experiencing portions of the game during his visits to Playground Games:
“Yeah, and I’ve played some aspects of it that are in the city based, and again, I’m trying to be very careful that I don’t spoil anything. Ralph and the team won’t forgive me if I spoil something. But I played some of the city elements, I played some of the quests, I played some of the combat, I played a boss battle, I’ve used magic. Like it felt amazing, and I had a great time, and again, I remember the originals and the scene, I’ve played that in gameplay. I’m not going to spoil the backstory of what’s going on, but as you can see, genuinely beautiful. Plays great.”
What This Means for Fans
Fable is now scheduled to launch in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it will also be available through Xbox Game Pass. With this delay and considering Microsoft’s recent strategies regarding multi-platform releases, there’s a possibility that the title could see a day-one launch on the PlayStation 5 as well.
