In a surprising move, Blizzard has announced the extension of Diablo 4‘s Season 7, officially titled the Season of Witchcraft, now set to conclude on April 29. Previously, players were led to believe that the season would wrap up on April 15.
Season 7, which began on January 21, centers around the introduction of Witchcraft Powers, which aim to enrich player combat dynamics. Alongside these powers, players found themselves engaged with a novel questline and the debut of Occult Gems, offering fresh avenues for skill enhancement and strategy. Despite some community concerns regarding minor omissions in this season, Blizzard has largely succeeded in keeping player engagement high until this unexpected extension.
Players first became aware of the end date change during their in-game checks. This shift was later confirmed by Rod Fergusson from Blizzard, who noted that “Season 8 will take a couple of weeks longer to bake than we initially anticipated.”While the prolonged wait for Season 7 may disappoint some gamers, Fergusson provided a tantalizing hint regarding upcoming developments, stating he is “Looking forward to seeing an old ‘friend’.”
Diablo 4: Season 7 Extended Until April 29
Hey everyone – In the spirit of serving the game, not the plan, Season 8 will take a couple of weeks longer to bake than we initially anticipated. The team is hard at work on some great updates coming in the next season, so stay tuned. Looking forward to seeing an old "friend".— Rod Fergusson (@RodFergusson) February 27, 2025
This is not the first instance where Blizzard has missed a deadline associated with Diablo 4. The developer recently announced that the game’s second expansion has been postponed to 2026, missing their goal of delivering one major expansion each year. While such delays can be disheartening to the community, it’s a commonality within the landscape of live-service games. Nonetheless, fans are hopeful that the anticipation for Season 8 and its potential offerings will justify the extended wait.

While it is natural for fans to express dissatisfaction over missed deadlines, it is essential to recognize that Diablo 4 is projected to receive ongoing support for years to come. Blizzard has established a robust track record with Diablo 3, which continues to thrive in its 34th Season. If Diablo 4 sees similar dedication from Blizzard, any delays, such as those currently affecting Season 8, will likely be insignificant in the long term.
