Jujutsu Kaisen introduces a variety of captivating characters, each contributing to the storyline in unique ways. However, one character who has not received the recognition she deserves is Kasumi Miwa. This second-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu High is often reduced to a role of comedic relief, resulting in her skills and character being largely overlooked.

While Miwa may not have played a pivotal role in the series’ significant battles, it is crucial to recognize her hard work and dedication towards becoming a better sorcerer. With her abilities more appropriately showcased, Miwa could easily rank among the most beloved female characters in the franchise.

Unveiling Kasumi Miwa’s Potential

Who Is Miwa?

Kasumi Miwa from Jujutsu Kaisen

Kasumi Miwa stands out as one of the most composed characters in her class, employing the New Shadow Style in combat encounters. An avid admirer of Gojo Satoru, her charming demeanor and bubbly personality have earned her a place among the series’ more endearing characters. Hailing from a modest background, Miwa is dedicated to becoming a proficient sorcerer to secure a better future for her younger siblings, making her an inspiring figure for many.

“I’m just a poor, incompetent, sword-wielding girl!” – Kasumi Miwa

Despite her determination, Miwa struggles with low self-esteem, often viewing herself as a burden to others. Nevertheless, she is deeply compassionate and exhibits greater rationality than many of her peers at Kyoto Jujutsu High. This is evident in her reluctance to join Principal Gakuganji’s scheme to eliminate Yuji during the goodwill event.

During the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Miwa faces off against Maki Zenin, a formidable opponent with a fearsome reputation despite lacking cursed energy. This matchup, unfortunately, showcases Miwa’s apparent inferiority, reinforcing the perception that she may be weaker than her fellow sorcerers.

While Miwa may not wield potent cursed techniques, her exceptional swordsmanship is her defining strength. As one of the few sorcerers who focus on swordplay, Miwa utilizes her New Shadow Style technique, which shines during the Night Parade of 100 Demons. Additionally, she can create a Simple Domain— a protective barrier that not only deflects incoming attacks but also allows her to execute powerful strikes within its confines.

Miwa attempts to use this technique against the quick-footed Kenjaku, though he deftly evades her strike.

Future Outlook for Kasumi Miwa

None

Unfortunately, Jujutsu Kaisen has largely sidelined Miwa’s character development, resulting in little exploration of her full potential. After the Kyoto Goodwill Event, her role diminishes significantly within the series. One of her few notable moments comes with the tragic death of Mechamaru, an event that could have served as a powerful catalyst for her character growth as she processes this loss and seeks to improve her abilities in sorcery.

“I want to get closer to you. So one day, I will visit you.” – Miwa Kasumi

Despite being overshadowed by other characters, fans hold hope for a resurgence of Miwa in future episodes. With adequate training and perhaps an impactful battle that showcases her abilities, she has the potential to evolve into one of the series’ most compelling sorcerers.
