Nicki Minaj made her debut in the music industry in 2007 and has since tirelessly worked to secure her position as one of the most acclaimed rap artists. As she climbed the ranks to become the wealthiest and most popular female rapper, Minaj has encountered her share of controversies, including feuds with notable figures like Remy Ma, Lil Kim, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Nonetheless, Minaj has also forged valuable friendships within the music scene. A significant ally from early in her career is Britney Spears. The bond between Nicki Minaj and Spears began in 2011 when Minaj featured on Spears’ hit track “Till The World Ends.”
In a notable instance two years ago, amid criticism directed at the Circus singer due to her ex-husband’s remarks about her relationship with their sons, Minaj came to Spears’ defense during an Instagram Live session.
Nicki Minaj labels Kevin Federline a “clown”for involving Britney’s children
The situation escalated in June 2022 after Britney Spears wed Sam Asghari, with neither of her sons attending the ceremony.
Following the wedding, Kevin Federline, Spears’ ex-husband, gave an interview to the Daily Mail, where he claimed that the boys “were not seeing her right now”and expressed embarrassment about the Instagram photos she shared.
While Spears responded on Instagram by labeling Federline’s statements as “hurtful,”her friend, Minaj, had much stronger words to share. In an Instagram Live session on August 17, Minaj criticized Federline for his attack on Britney, stating:
“Do you understand what kind of a clown you have to be, to be a whole grown f***ing man? And as soon as you see somebody happy and getting married and moving on and being free and feeling good in their own skin, to do the very thing that you know is going to attempt to break them down?”
The Anaconda rapper went on to highlight that only cowards leverage the media against a former partner, using their fame as a tool for public humiliation, adding:
“And you think you’re not gonna f***ing have karma from it? You think it’s okay? You think that anybody’s going to feel sorry for you?”
Minaj further discussed Spears’ deep love for her children, stating:
“She loves her kids more than life itself… how dare you? How dare you encourage this woman’s children to be a part of your nonsense? They’re kids, they don’t know how detrimental this is. But you know. Leave her the f*** alone.”
This isn’t the first instance of the Young Money artist standing up for Spears on social media. Previously, in March 2022, after the Femme Fatale singer publicly apologized on Instagram about her dancing skills, Nicki defended her in the comments, stating:
“Not the best dancer? BRITNEY! PUT YOUR CROWN BACK ON & LEAVE IT THERE BABY!!!!!!” the rapper commented. “You ARE the best dancer!!! Settled that, what’s next?”
Nicki Minaj joined Britney Spears on her 2011 tour
The friendship between Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears traces back to 2011, following their collaboration on “Till The World Ends,”a single from Spears’ seventh studio album, Femme Fatale.
In June 2011, when Spears launched her headlining tour for Femme Fatale, Nicki was among the supporting acts, alongside artists like Joe Jonas, Nervo, and Howie Dorough.
On July 27, 2011, Britney praised Nicki Minaj in an interview with MTV, saying:
“She’s a great artist in every way… I think she has a distinct sound when she raps. It really stands out and sets her apart from everyone else. I’m happy she’s able to be on tour with me because that’s just amazing.”
In turn, the Side to Side rapper expressed her admiration for Britney, sharing with MTV how the singer made her feel at ease:
“She reminds me of my best friend, which is really, really weird. So, whenever I see her, I feel at peace for some strange reason.”
Thirteen years after first supporting Britney on her Femme Fatale tour, Nicki Minaj is currently on her fourth headlining tour, which is set to conclude on October 11 in New York. Following the tour, she may announce the release dates for her highly anticipated sixth album.
