Exploring the Ending of Love Next Door and Season 2 Renewal Chances: Will Choi Seung-hyo & Bae Seok-ryu Achieve Their Happy Ending?

The series finale of Love Next Door, featuring Jung Hae-in, Jung So-min, Kim Ji-eun, Yoon Ji-on, among others, aired its concluding episodes, 15 and 16, on October 5 and 6, respectively, on tvN and Netflix. Episode 15 kicked off with the revelation of Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo’s clandestine romance being exposed by their parents.

The already tense situation elongated due to the conflict between Na Mi-sook (played by Jang Young-nam) and Seo Hye-suk (also portrayed by Jang Young-nam), where the two mothers swiftly separated their children against the latter’s wishes.

Na Mi-sook harbored fears that her son Bae Seok-ryu’s previous challenges, including a broken engagement and health scares, would lead to her being treated poorly by her in-laws. Conversely, Seo Hye-suk was anxious about the potential relapse of Bae Seok-ryu’s cancer. Friends of both mothers attempted to mediate the situation, but their efforts backfired, resulting in a significant confrontation instead.

However, amidst the turmoil, Episode 15 of Love Next Door concluded with Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo obtaining their families’ blessings. Their mothers, who had maintained a friendship for over four decades, managed to repair their relationship as well.

Understanding the Conclusion of Love Next Door: Wedding Preparations and New Beginnings

Episode 15 showcased a dramatic encounter with neighborhood women who were gossiping about Na Mi-sook and Seo Hye-suk. This led to their involvement with local law enforcement, prompting a swift response from Choi Gyeong-jong (Choi Seung-hyo’s father, portrayed by Lee Seung-joon) and Bae Geun-sik (Bae Seok-ryu’s father, played by Jo Han-chul). Their sons later joined them at the police station.

Following their conflicts with the neighborhood ladies, Na Mi-sook and Seo Hye-suk found themselves reminiscing about their youth. To Choi Seung-hyo’s inquiry about their reconciliation, it seemed that they indeed made amends. The two friends visited Na Mi-sook’s rooftop, where they cleared the air. Seo Hye-suk expressed her commitment to look after Bae Seok-ryu, just as Na Mi-sook had cared for Choi Seung-hyo during her absence for work.

Meanwhile, Jeong Mo-eum (played by Kim Ji-eun) and Kang Dan-oh (Yoon Ji-on) learned about their connections with Yeon-du (Shim Ji-yoo), with Jeong Mo-eum even asking Yeon-du if she could consider her a mother.

In the final episode of Love Next Door, Jeong Mo-eum received a dream opportunity as a safety officer at the South Pole for a year. However, she hesitated to share this news with Kang Dan-oh, given their recent involvement. One day, Kang Dan-oh learned about her exciting promotion from her colleagues while picking her up.

Later, Jeong Mo-eum celebrated with a family T-shirt gift for Kang Dan-oh, who accompanied Yeon-du and her mother in providing her with warm attire and congratulating her on the new position. Both Kang Dan-oh and Yeon-du pledged to support Jeong Mo-eum, assuring her they would wait for her return.

Concurrently, Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo enjoyed a neighborhood walk and stumbled upon a new eatery being constructed where Bae Geun-sik’s former tteokbokki restaurant stood.

Intrigued, Choi Seung-hyo suggested they explore it. Once inside, Bae Seok-ryu was captivated by the kitchen design and shared that it will be her restaurant. Bae Geun-sik asked Choi Seung-hyo to oversee the renovations, expressing his wish to pass the establishment down to Bae Seok-ryu.

Chances of a Second Season of Love Next Door

In the concluding moments of Love Next Door, Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo embarked on a wedding dress fitting, during which Bae Seok-ryu pondered whether they should delay their wedding for a year so she could focus on her restaurant plans. Choi Seung-hyo readily agreed, understanding the importance of her aspirations. Bae Seok-ryu also developed a wellness app, drawing from her background as a product manager.

Fast forward ten months, Bae Seok-ryu’s restaurant launched a menu focused on healthy cuisine for those with health conditions and even garnered attention in a local newspaper. Meanwhile, Choi Seung-hyo was on the brink of unveiling the Greip flagship store he designed, alongside finalizing the layout for their future home.

Additionally, Jeong Mo-eum reached out to Kang Dan-oh and Yeon-du via video call, revealing her plans for an upcoming official assignment to cover her experiences at the South Pole. The series wrapped up with the familiar bickering between Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo as they headed to consult with the contractor about their new house project post-wedding.

Despite the much-anticipated wedding scenes being absent, the conclusion neglected to detail the reunion between Jeong Mo-eum and Kang Dan-oh at the South Pole. As Love Next Door wraps up, the likelihood of a second season appears slim, given the characters’ individual paths are progressing. However, neither tvN nor Netflix has issued an official statement regarding the future of Love Next Door.

Love Next Door is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
