Exploring Teen Agatha’s Son in Agatha All Along: His Comic Book Origins

The third episode of Agatha All Along premiered on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Titled Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials, this episode featured Agatha Harkness and her assembled coven of witches confronting their first trial on the Witches’ Road. During this trial, they entered a house and drank wine that induced hallucinations of their darkest memories.

Additionally, Agatha All Along episode 3 subtly suggested the identity of Joe Locke’s character, known as Teen. Due to events in the episode, numerous fans have speculated that Locke portrays Nicholas Scratch, Agatha’s son. However, though the Teen character is linked to Agatha and is under a spell to reveal his name, it turns out he is not her child.

In actuality, this character is connected to Agatha but is instead the son of her arch-nemesis, Wanda Maximoff. Marvel Studios has hinted, through promotional materials and merchandise, that Locke’s Teen is, in fact, Billy Kaplan, known as Wiccan in the comics.

Recently, a Funko Pop leak confirmed that Locke will indeed portray Wiccan in the series, which fans can look forward to seeing in the concluding episodes.

Joe Locke’s Teen is Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan in Agatha All Along

In the comics, Billy Kaplan, also known as Wiccan, was created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, first appearing as Asgardian in Young Avengers #1 in February 2005, and later debuting as Wiccan in Young Avengers #6 in August 2005. He is the son of Wanda Maximoff in the comics.

Billy and his twin brother Tommy were born when Wanda altered reality to claim two lost souls. However, Mephisto ultimately reclaimed those souls, leading to a tragic consequence as they had already been heavily influenced by Wanda’s magic. This caused their souls to become displaced, with Billy’s soul being reborn into a family of Reform Jews.

During his childhood, Billy faced constant bullying at school. However, after receiving encouragement from his favorite Avenger, Scarlet Witch, he found the courage to confront his bully, which led to the manifestation of his powers—with tragic consequences. He accidentally killed his tormentor and subsequently adopted the superhero identity of Asgardian, inspired by Thor.

Ultimately, the Asgardian persona was short-lived, as Cassie Lang and Kate Bishop suggested that he rename himself Wiccan. Throughout the comics, Wiccan has played a vital role in the Young Avengers.

Agatha All Along teases the tragedy of Agatha’s son

While the Teen character, Billy Kaplan, is not Agatha’s offspring, her son receives a significant reference in the latest episode. In the comics, Nicholas Scratch is the child of Agatha Harkness and also the father of Salem’s Seven.

During the first trial of the Witches’ Road, Agatha experiences a hallucination involving a baby crib, which she approaches only to discover the Darkhold inside. Given that it has been hinted that Agatha may have sacrificed her son in exchange for power, it appears that Scratch could have met an unfortunate end early in life, though his fate remains ambiguous.
