The Great British Bake Off returns with its highly anticipated season 15, with the premiere episode airing on September 24 in the UK and September 27 in the US. Like in previous years, this season will comprise 10 episodes, released weekly as 12 contestants aim to claim the title of champion by tackling various baking challenges.
The enthusiastic amateur bakers will present their culinary creations before the esteemed judges, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. This season, the show is hosted by Noel Fielding alongside Alison Hammond, who stepped in last year after Matt Lucas exited his presenting role.
Filming took place in the picturesque Berkshire countryside at Welford Park. Last season’s winner was Matty Edgell, who triumphed over challenges that included a choux pastry signature bake, a lard cake technical challenge, and a celebration cake showstopper during the finale.
What are the different themes of The Great British Bake Off Season 15?
Every week, the bakers are tasked with creating three types of bakes: a signature, a technical, and a showstopper. The themes for this season include familiar favorites such as Cake, Biscuit, Bread, Caramel, Dessert, Pastry, and Patisserie. Additionally, two new themes—Autumn and 1970s—will be introduced.
In an interview with whattowatch.com on September 25, 2024, Prue expressed her fondness for the 1970s, highlighting that it was a crucial decade for her career, coinciding with the opening of her restaurant and her catering business.
“All of that decade, I was working really hard, but having a great time. It’s also the decade my children were born and we moved to the country,”stated Prue.
The first week featured Cake Week, where bakers created loaf cakes for their signature bakes and were challenged to use mystery ingredients for the technical task, concluding with the creation of hyperrealistic illusion cakes as their showstoppers.
The upcoming second episode will revolve around the Biscuit theme, requiring bakers to make Viennese sandwich biscuits, recreate a retro minty favorite for the technical, and design puppet theatres as their showstopper.
Following that, the third episode will focus on Bread Week, challenging bakers to whip up savory buns and bread horns filled with delightful ingredients, while strictly following Paul Hollywood’s recipe demonstration.
