A closer look at Raven Goodwin’s role in Grotesquerie
In “Grotesquerie,”Raven Goodwin plays Merritt Tryon, the daughter of Detective Lois and Marshall Tryon. Before her father’s coma, Merritt had a strong bond with him.
However, her relationship with her mother is strained. Both Merritt and Lois grapple with their own addictions; Lois with alcohol, while Merritt deals with an eating disorder and seeks to be featured on the fictional reality show, “Half-Ton Trauma”by trying to gain weight.
Merritt was first introduced in the premiere episode, which aired on September 25, 2024. In the sixth episode, airing on October 9, 2024, Merritt spends time with Ed Lachlan, who takes care of her in her mother’s absence. In a brief moment away due to the ongoing investigation, Lois asks Eddie to keep an eye on Merritt.
Raven Goodwin elaborated on her character in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in October 2024, sharing:
“Merritt is much more complex than she appears. She is portrayed as intelligent and full of nuance. Rather than fitting into the typical ‘tragic character’ mold, she has self-sabotaging tendencies but remains confident.”
She elaborated further:
“Currently, she lacks self-worth and is discovering her identity. right now, she is participating in a reality show, pretending to be the person the world expects her to be, all while knowing that isn’t her true self.”

Raven Goodwin’s acting career began at a young age, starring in the 2001 film “Lovely & Amazing.”Shortly after, she was part of the cast in “The Station Agent,”which garnered her a SAG award nomination for Best Ensemble. She is also known for her role in “Good Luck Charlie,”a Disney series that ran from 2010 to 2014, and had a notable arc in Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed series, “Glee.”
