Exploring Nicki Minaj’s Tour Demands: From Spicy Fried Chicken to Throat Lozenges for Her and Her Entourage
Nicki Minaj stands as a formidable figure in the rap industry. With five studio albums, four solo headlining tours, numerous festival appearances, event performances, and a myriad of collaborations, there’s no doubt that she has earned her title as the queen of rap.
As befits her status, the Young Money sensation enjoys all the luxuries and comforts she desires while on the road, particularly during her tours.
When Nicki embarked on her first solo headlining tour in 2012, she meticulously outlined her dressing room requirements, ensuring she and her entourage had everything they needed for her performances. Here’s a glimpse of the first-ever tour rider she compiled as a prominent artist.
Nicki Minaj has specific preferences for bottled water and juices during tours
Kicking off her Pink Friday world tour on May 16, 2012, Minaj aimed to promote her debut and second studio albums released in 2010 and 2012, respectively.
Throughout the tour, the artist known for “Anaconda”provided her team with an extensive list of accommodations for herself and her entourage, ensuring they were ready and waiting backstage in their dressing quarters upon her arrival.
During an interview with Wonderland magazine for its February/March edition, Minaj hinted at the extensive nature of her list. The publication later managed to acquire a complete rider list from her representatives.
The list was not only thorough but surprisingly detailed, addressing her food and drink preferences as well as the atmosphere she desired while getting ready to perform for her devoted fans.
To create the right ambiance in her dressing area, Nicki requested two dozen white and pink roses, complemented by three sizable Baked Goods scented candles. She also had a clear vision for her meals and snacks.
For breakfast, she specified egg whites, turkey bacon, dried cranberries, raw almonds, white toast with both grape and strawberry jam, as well as Belgian waffles topped with syrup, whipped cream, powdered sugar, butter, and strawberries on the side. She also required a generous cheese platter and a large fruit platter, including mango.
Accompanying her breakfast, the hit-maker asked for two large bottles of various fruit juices and a gallon of Simply Lemonade, along with clean ice and cups for serving.
For lunch, her menu included a salad made from iceberg lettuce, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and green olives, paired with Wishbone Light Italian dressing, Bumble Bee tuna packed in water, and either wheat or low-fat crackers.
To stay hydrated throughout her performances, Nicki specified a hot tea setup featuring lemon wedges, sugar, honey, and decaffeinated Lipton tea bags. Additionally, she requested 24 bottles of Dasani water, 12 cans of Red Bull, 24 Snapple bottles (split between lemon iced tea and assorted flavors), and 12 bottles of Martinelli’s apple juice.
For her snacking preferences, the “Super Freaky Girl”artist listed buckets of spicy fried chicken (specifically wings only), along with a deli platter featuring turkey breast, grilled chicken breast, whole wheat bread, and rolls. Her choice of condiments included yellow mustard, hot sauce, and seasoned salt.
Beyond her extravagant cravings, there were also essential items included in her rider that contributed to her performance. These comprised a Singer’s Saving Grace throat spray, a cool mist humidifier, two space heaters, contact lens solution with a case, three packs of Thayers Slippery Elm lozenges, and three different flavors of gum.
While this rider list reflects Nicki Minaj’s inaugural world tour, she recently completed her fourth, the Pink Friday 2 world tour, on October 11, after which she announced plans for a hiatus.
