Miyo is the eldest daughter of the illustrious Saimori clan, a family renowned for producing individuals with supernatural gifts that enable them to combat Grotesqueries—malevolent entities threatening humanity. While most of her lineage possessed formidable powers, Miyo’s journey to awakening her abilities remained delayed until she turned 19.
Born from an arranged union between her father, Shinichi, and her Usuba lineage mother, Sumi, Miyo was expected to inherit supernatural talents. The Usuba family is celebrated for their potent gifts, and the pressures of such expectations loomed heavy on Miyo’s shoulders. Yet, despite her noble birth, Miyo’s powers were sealed by her mother to protect her from exploitation. Unfortunately, this decision led to Miyo being marginalized by her own family, as the Saimoris valued ability users, leaving her isolated and emotionally scarred.
Miyo’s plight was exacerbated after her father remarried and had another daughter, Kaya, who inherited the family’s gifts. This shift created a toxic dynamic where Miyo faced ongoing mistreatment and was reduced to a servant-like role within her own home.
Her upbringing amid constant verbal and physical abuse took a toll on Miyo, leading her to doubt her worth and thus ponder if she was deserving of becoming part of the Kudo family. Her feelings were intensified by the fact that her childhood crush, Tatsuishi Kouji, was to marry Kaya instead, leaving Miyo in a shadow of inadequacy.
Yet, her engagement to Kiyoka Kudo presented Miyo with a chance to escape her oppressive past. Though this new union offered her hope, it came with significant emotional baggage, as she had grown up feeling worthless, due to her father’s lack of support and the absence of a proper education.
Amidst an environment where Kaya received admiration and accolades, Miyo felt increasingly invisible. Nevertheless, Kiyoka—in spite of his aloof exterior—understood the kindness within Miyo and was moved by her suffering.
What Are Her Supernatural Abilities?
Dream-Sight: A Unique and Rare Power
Unbeknownst to her early on, Miyo harbors the Dream-Sight ability: a potent supernatural skill that allows the user to delve into dreams and manipulate them while also possessing the foresight to observe past and future events. Miyo’s powers lay dormant under her mother’s protective seal, aiming to shield her from potential misuse, given the immense potential of this Gift.
As she distances herself from the confinement of the Saimori household, Miyo’s Dream-Sight begins to awaken. Initially misconstrued as nightmares, the first manifestations of her powers arise as intimations of something far greater. Kiyoka, with his advanced Gift and role in the Anti-Grosqueries Unit, is the first to recognize these hints of Miyo’s true potential.
- Dream-Sight enables Miyo to shape and influence the dreams of others.
- It acts as a form of clairvoyance, alerting her to future dangers.
- This remarkable ability is exclusive to women within the Usuba family tree.
- Miyo’s gift also entails the capacity to glimpse both past and future events.
The extraordinary power of Dream-Sight highlights why Sumi aimed to safeguard Miyo from potential exploitation. To manifest Dream-Sight, the user needs to be in psychological contact with their target, capitalizing on the inherent human tendency to need rest. While such powers could easily be misused, Miyo’s gentle disposition minimizes the chances of her exploiting her own Gift.
My Happy Marriage is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
