Lil Durk, known for his track “All My Life,”was taken into custody for alleged involvement in a botched assassination attempt on fellow rapper Quando Rondo, which resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab. The rapper was arrested on the evening of October 24 in Broward County, Florida, facing a serious murder-for-hire accusation. As the founder and head of the Chicago-based rap collective OTF (Only The Family), Lil Durk has a notable history, including a deep affiliation with the late King Von.
Authorities claim that following King Von’s tragic death during a confrontation with Quando Rondo’s entourage in November 2020, Durk orchestrated a retaliation against Rondo, leading to a violent altercation in 2022. The federal indictment against Durk, alongside four alleged accomplices, could result in a life sentence if convicted.
Lil Durk could face life in prison due to murder-for-hire allegations
The legal documents position Durk as the head of OTF, a hip-hop group he established in 2010, which allegedly has been involved in orchestrating violent activities such as assaults and murders, directed by him to preserve the group’s reputation.
The events leading to his arrest are rooted in the 2020 death of OTF member and Durk’s close associate, Dayvon Bennett, known as King Von. In November 2020, King Von lost his life due to a violent clash with associates of rival rapper Quando Rondo.
While Rondo’s associate Timothy “Lul Tim”Leeks was initially charged for King Von’s murder, those charges were dismissed in 2023. The indictment suggests that in retaliation for Von’s death, Durk allegedly placed a hit on Rondo. On August 19, OTF members are reported to have targeted Rondo’s vehicle, which contained him, his cousin, and his sister, opening fire at a gas station near Beverly Center Mall in Los Angeles.
The attack led to the tragic death of Saviay’a Robinson, a.k.a Lul Pab. The complaint states that Lil Durk was the one who ordered the attack, indicating that a close associate arranged the execution, including buying flight tickets for five co-conspirators from Chicago to California the day before the incident.
The indictment also implicates Kavon London Grant, also known as Vonnie, who allegedly funded the purchase of ski masks and accommodations used by the attackers with a credit card linked to Lil Durk. Alongside Grant, four other individuals were detained based on a federal grand jury’s four-count indictment.
These individuals face charges related to conspiracy, the use of interstate communication to execute murder-for-hire leading to death, and the unlawful possession and use of firearms, including a machine gun, in progressing a violent crime. One defendant was also charged with machine gun possession.
In a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California on October 25, it was highlighted that if the defendants are found guilty of their respective charges, they face a potential life sentence in federal prison. United States Attorney Martin Estrada stated:
“Mr. Banks is charged with orchestrating a cold-blooded murder that resulted in the death of a rival’s family member.”
He continued:
“Furthermore, the shooting took place in public, at a gas station in a busy area, putting numerous lives at risk. This type of violent firearm use is damaging to our community, and we will show zero tolerance towards such heinous acts.”
Lil Durk, honored with a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his 2023 single “All My Life”featuring J Cole, is currently in custody at Broward County Jail as he awaits transfer to U.S. Marshals.
